NEVER NEVER NEVER give up an original document of any kind unless it is for a very important reason--but I have yet to see a reason that is that important that a copy verified by looking at the original would not do. WIthin the instructions it plainly states that copies of original documents are fine. If you do send in the originals they will be come part of your record and not returned. It is stated in every instruction for every form I've had to fill out for USCIS. You now must take copies of the originals to the interview. Hopefully the originals that are now part of your file will be sent to the embassy along with everything else. I know at our AOS interview the file the IO had was quite thick with all the docements we had subnmitted for the K-1. The IO did look at the original marriage certificate and asked if she could keep the copy I had. I still have our original marriage certificate.

Use this as a life's lesson that original documents are irreplacable and should never be given up--EVER!! Only copies. I had one person insist on keeping the original and I managed to convince them that verifing the copy I had made is a true representation of the original should be good enough. I pointed out to them that someone else may want to look at the original, but now you have it so what am I to do.

Take what you have and if asked you can explain. If you already sent the originals then take copies, but they may realize that they already have the originals. You will be fine. Now relax.

Good luck,

Dave

You will receive an email containg interview schedule letter. In page 4 of that letter, you will find all the documents that are being forwarded to the consulate with status. If any of the document that are still to be submitted at consulate, the status would indicate that. In addition to those, you will need medical to be done and take the sealed envelope to interview. Then take all the additional evidence of continuing relationship that you gathered (tickets, invitation card, chat from skype), photos of marraige, reception, honeymoon, any inter-mixing of finances like joint accounts, joint lease... to interview. Of course passport is a must.

It is good to take copies of your I-130, I-864, DS-230, DS-3032 also. If you have not submitted the original marraige and date of birth certificates, please take them to interview.

The bottomline is that your interview letter will spell out the requirements to be submitted at interview. Look for that.

Finally if you have not submitted copies of the originals submitted with DS-230, take those and then the consulate will return the originals keeping those copies. And if you have submitted both original and copy, then they will return the originals. Of course, you remember to ask for those, if they forget.

You do not need the originals at the interview, the NVC sends the originals back to the embassy so make sure you ask for them after the interview. Congrats on your interview. My case is complete at NVC effective yesterday. They said Jordan had no capacity for a November interview, I am hoping in a few weeks they tell us the interview is in December.

I have an interview coming up as well and had submitted all originals as requested to the NVC. They said they would forward everything to the Embassy. The letter sent to me states that I need to carry all originals (I will be taking all the copies of everything I sent to NVC) and the I-864 needs to NOTARIZED. I read in a few places that Notarization is not a requirement! Did you have to face this?

Congrats on the case complete. The NVC told me on Wednesday that nothing was available on November at the Consulate where my wife will interview, I called them the very next day and was told an interview had in fact been scheduled for November. There is still a chance for a November interview.
