I laugh at my ex. He's made the mistake of taking a job and never sticking with it. So, he's now unemployed yet again. When he puts out his resume....it has got to be about 10 pages long. He doesn't understand WHY no one will hire him now. Thank GOD we're no longer married. Glyn came here in 2008, got a job in two months and kept it the whole time he was here...it wasn't his dream job but he was grateful for the opportunity. It paid well and had benefits. Now, he's been back in the UK for a month and starts at a good job on Monday. I know its different for different people, but there are idiots out there who put themselves in the position that my ex is in now. He complains to me all the time about how hard it is because he's "over qualified" I almost choke with laughter at that one.

No the ex isn't in the UK...he's here sitting on his #### collecting unemployment and begging me for cash. His girlfriend doesn't work either....she collects disability because she drank her liver to death. They're quite the couple.They sit at home watching tv all day and smoking. Hubby is in the UK, taking care of his dad who just had a massive heart attack. He starts at work on Monday. My daughter and I are in the process of getting our visas to go back to the UK to join him. Both of his parents are ill which is why we are going back.

We have no student loans for anyone in this house, ever.

I do not give Obama...or George Bush any credit for that. None. None of us are rich. None of us are poor.

One thing I learned about perfect families is - people like to put up a front

I offered my kids unlimited funds to go for a better education and I was behind them in every way but they would take me up on it

I had a very respectable woman who worked for me and who had two daughters - they were brought up the same and one was like this paragon of perfection which is your kids - and one was like mine, worse actually - she sold her body to Pakistanis (devout Moslems) who gave her $5 a go.

You were lucky and it wasn't all to your credit. Recognize that and be glad.

yep I didn't get so far in life without knowing about perfect families with perfect children. I used to work with a guy like that. He sends me a perfect Christmas card which shows pictures of himself and his his perfect wife assembled with their perfect children in their perfect house. He has a perfect new Jaguar car of course.

I just have to think of John Edwards to know what really happens behind the scenes.

Actually, when I come across these perfect people with perfect families, it makes my imperfect one look better and better because at least they are real

My daughter is full of all the flaws that this perfect family doesn't have - but she looks after geriatrics on shifts 7 days a week for minimum wage - that's getting pretty close to perfection the way I score it.

If you misunderstood that, let me be clear. I gave the people in my family the best opportunity I could and they took it and did the best with it they could. Each of them did what they have done so far on their own. Hence my agreement with Cain when he says "Blame yourself"

I actually do not consider our family "perfect" nor do I consider it unusual. 4 children, 2 with college degrees and jobs and wives, one with children. One in college, one in high school. The average unemployed American has now been out of work for a longer period than at any time since records began being kept more than 60 years ago -- more evidence, as if any were needed, that the jobs crisis is in reality a crisis of long-term unemployment.

The average duration of unemployment rose to 40.5 weeks in September, up from 40.3 weeks in August, according to the Labor Department's monthly jobs report, released Friday morning. That's the longest since the government started tracking the information in 1948, Bureau of Labor Statistics data show.

It's difficult to convey just how anomalous the current rate of long-term unemployment is by historical standards. Through the end of the 1980s, for the most part, the average length of joblessness hovered between 10 and 15 weeks. Until May 2009--more than 736 months of data--it never exceeded 21.2 weeks, the high mark it hit during the downturn of the early 1980s. Today, after rising more or less steadily since mid 2008, it's nearly twice that.

Being out of work for a long period has several negative effects, analysts say. As President Obama and the Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke have noted, workers' skills tend to atrophy as they lose touch with developments in their field. Older workers become increasingly likely to give up searching for work. With rates of long-term unemployment as high as they are now, the jobless threaten to become a semi-permanent class, exacerbating growing inequality. And that's leaving aside the psychological and emotional toll of going for so long without work -- something Yahoo! readers told us about firsthand this summer.

Other measures of long-term joblessness in the government's report were almost as bleak. The number of Americans who have been out of work for more than 27 weeks -- the official definition of long-term unemployment -- rose to 6.24 million, up from 6.03 million in August. That figure is lower than it was for most of the spring and summer of 2010 -- it reached a high of 6.71 million in May of last year -- but is near its high point for 2011.

The median duration of joblessness also rose last month, to 22.2 weeks, up from 21.8 in August. It's now at its fourth-highest monthly mark ever.

The share of the total unemployed population who are considered long-term unemployed -- that is, they've been out of work for at least 27 weeks -- rose last month to 44.6 percent, from 42.9 percent in August. That figure, too, reached its peak in May 2010 but is now near its historic high.

The economy added 103,000 more jobs in September than expected. But that is hardly cause for celebration. As Dan Gross of Yahoo! Finance wrote, "This is nowhere near an acceptable level of job growth for an economy of this size and with this much slack."

The son is probably at his computer now downloading child porn while the daughter is knocking off the Mexican gardener and cheating on her taxes. I bet they all have lovely white teeth and a family portrait slightly out of focus to make it look dreamy. I guarantee their Christmas cards are specially printed.

I know the type and I get a big buzz when the wheel comes off. Last time that happened, this woman had a 15 year old daughter who was 'perfect' and her husband was chief jet instructor for a major UK airline and they lived in a beautiful farmhouse etc etc etc etc and everything was so wonderful and because they made it so by their example of responsible parenting and clean living and were an inspiration to all the lesser beings

The daughter got pregnant at 15 by a black kid and I wet myself laughing !
