changing name on passport

Has anyone had any experience changing their name on their passport while in the US through the Australian embassy? According to the Passports Office website we are supposed to be able to get a replacement passport for free if we marry and change our name, but I read on the Australian Embassy USA website that you need "a revised birth certificate, marriage certificate or name change certificate issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the Australian state where you were born or married. Foreign marriage certificates are not acceptable for name change purposes". Does that mean I can't get a new passport with a US marriage certificate? If my green card is in my married name and my passport is in my maiden name will this cause problems?

You have to get on line and download a change of name form from births deaths and marriages in Australia send it off with all your ID and then they will send you a new birth cert with change of name cert and then you can get your passport changed to your married name. If you look on Vanessa and Tony profile she has a link there for you.
