I like the US system better.

There are are 50 million uninsured right now.

That is one huge ticking atomic bomb.

Do they have that in Canada? UK? Australia? And other countries where Health Care Socialism exists?

Best Healthcare System in the World - France

"The French healthcare system has been in place and has continued to evolve for more than one hundred years, and was classified the “best health system in the world” by the World Health Organization (WHO) in June 2000. It permits all French citizens access to treatment and to the latest discoveries in medical research. The success of the French health system is evidenced in the general health of the French population. Their life expectancy increases more than three months each year, and French women have the second highest life expectancy rate in the world..."

It is not a ticking bomb, IMO. With Health Insurances milking our money, I'd rather open a CD, deposit $100 monthly to save for hospital and emergency bills. To hell with those insurance who charge so much yet give benefits so little. And what is the logic behind their "deductibles". Pure #######.

2009: This year, an estimated 1.5 million Americans will declare bankruptcy. Many people may chalk up that misfortune to overspending or a lavish lifestyle, but a new study suggests that more than 60 percent of people who go bankrupt are actually capsized by medical bills.

http://articles.cnn.com/2009-06-05/health/bankruptcy.medical.bills_1_medical-bills-bankruptcies-health-insurance?_s=PM:HEALTH

I'd have to imagine when 1.5 million Americans go bankrupt in a year. It affects their families. It contributes to the foreclosure crisis. It is not good for the economy.

Take 60% of that number out of the equation and you have 900,000 less people that declared bankruptcy.

It's also cheaper as % of GDP to have universal coverage.

People never got easy with their credit cards.

It is not surprising though. I do see a lot of people with the latest iPhone yet with ratty clothes and are on food stamps.

Quit paying insurance. After all CASH prices are much much cheaper. They might as well save money for hospital and medications than giving them to overcharging insurances

Maybe we are turning into a third world country. Common sense seems to have been breed out of the American consumer.

That is fine until you need an ultrasound, or an MRI, or have a serious illness. A single ER visit could drain all that cash you set aside for medical expenses. That $100 a month won't go very far.

Why is an ultrasound or MRI so expensive? There's no reason for it to be.

But your insurance wouldn't cover much either. I do billing (and calling) for medical clinics so I know how the insurance thing works.

Practitioners overprice because insurance only pay a small percentage. An $80 service in cash is worth $300 when billing insurance. And how much does one pay monthly... $100, with restrictions.

If people start saving $100 BEFORE they are ill, they'd have enough savings to cover for more expensive bills.

There are so many "unused" money that you pay into the insurance.

How many Americans ask for Cash prices and study their EOBs. Start doing it and compare.

It is expensive if you use insurance. Try asking for the cash price, it will drastically "go down"

Yeah, I wonder that too. We went to a deductible plan a few years ago, so they send the statements with the actual costs. Say an ultrasound is $1200 based on a contract rate, it is reduced to $700 under cost sharing, and under some kind of weird math, $500 gets charged to our annual deductible, and the bill to us is $270. I don't understand it, I just write the check for the $270.
