Pollster: 'Trend isn't good' for Obama

More Americans than ever say they disapprove of how President Barack Obama is handling his job, a new poll shows.

A majority of voters — 55 percent — told Quinnipiac University they don’t like how Obama is doing his job. That’s an all-time low for Obama, according to pollsters. Just 41 percent approve of the job the president is doing.

“The trend isn’t good for President Barack Obama,” Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a press release. “His disapproval has gone up 9 points since the summer, from 46 percent in July to 52 percent in September to 55 percent today.”

And voters say they think the economy is doing just as poorly, according to the poll.

A huge swath of Americans — 77 percent — told pollsters they think the economy is currently in a recession. Just 11 percent say they think the economy is improving, compared with 44 percent who said they believe it is getting worse.

And if Obama wins re-election in 2012, only 29 percent surveyed believe the economy will recover.

Most Americans, or 64 percent, say Obama is doing a bad job of handling the economy, while just 32 percent told pollsters they approve of the president’s actions concerning the economy.

Brown said in the press release that Obama “is stuck at a politically unhealthy level for someone who wants to be re-elected.”

“Especially troubling for the president is that voters say 49 - 39 percent that Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney would do a better job on the economy,” Brown said. “GOP contender Rick Perry would do only slightly better, voters say, and Republicans in Congress would not be much better.”

There is one piece of good information Obama can glean from the poll: most Americans still blame President George W. Bush for the economy. Slightly over half — 51 percent — say the former president is more responsible for the current condition of the U.S. economy, while just 32 percent lay the blame on Obama.

The Quinnipiac University Poll surveyed 2,118 voters from Sept. 27-Oct. 3. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.

W has very little to do with the current state of the economy. People are damn ignorant of what went on prior to W taking office.

Strangely, folks here blame the previous Labour Government for the state of the UK economy. Yet there's not a lot of controversy about that.

On the other hand, do things seem to be improving in the UK? Is the current government doing a better job than the last, or did the bar get set even lower?

I think if you have to ask that you don't understand the nature of the problem.

Governments can't wave a magic wand and make all this go away.

Eight years of Bush killed helped to kill this country. I remember the massive lay offs and bail outs before he left office. This country was in shambles while Haliburton was reaping the big bucks from US tax payers in the war for oil.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Very few can drink that much. At least you didn't say that we had to chug beer anytime Obama the Socialist blames anyone else but himself. No man alive can drink that much.blink.gif
