Heres my story!

My name is Marcus and Im from Sweden, 25 yrs old. Ive been an active reader on this amazing and helpful forum and thanks to everyone here that makes efforts to help others on their missions.

10 months ago me and my girlfriend met online and a couple of months ago we got engaged. We have never met before so the engagement was done through webcam. Dorky as it may seem, i still love it !

Now we are meeting for the first time on monday (4 days left) when im visiting her on a VWP. This will be the second time flying as an adult and so not only do I meet her for the first time and being nervous about that, i am also supernervous about the travelingpart and POE questions

Im sorry if this has already been answered somewhere on the forum. But ive been searching with no luck on this messy question i have, so here goes:

I got her this engagement ring in Sweden and i am planning to bring it with me. But then i started to worry about the POE questions IF they notice that i have a ring in my carry-on bag or the checked in one.

Where should i place the ring? In which bag? It seems stupid to hide it but i dont want them to think im going to get married, WHICH im not. Im traveling home after 89 days and I have a return ticket to prove that.

Should I say that im visiting my girlfriend or fiancee? Im worried that if I say girlfriend they are gonna find the ring and ask if Im going to propose. And it might seem more supicious to find a engagement ring to a girl to whom the traveler never met.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Im just really nervous..

My husband was the same way...not the webcam but worried about the ring lol. He actually mailed the ring to my house knowing he would be here when it came to collect it. He didnt want to chance them finding it in his bag. If they ask you who you are coming to see don't lie...she's your fiance so tell them. Don't be nervous. Loads of people come to visit their loved ones!

much ado about nothing... the CBP will not search your bags and find this ring and deny you entry because of this..

customs inspection occurs after you have entered and been admitted

I feel much more relaxed reading your replies. . And thanks for the welcome!

So its common for engaged couples to fly to one another with no problems? I dont know where i got the idea from but i have always thought that if you are engaged you have to file for a k-1 visa but i thats only for MOVING, right? :D

I will take your advice to heart and just relax.

Thank you for your time everyone !

Marcus,

CBP is usually not interested in your jewelry, unless you have a diamond crusted Rolex hanging on your sleeve and a huge nugget dangling around your neck. In the 1% chance that they find the ring in your carry-on luggage (don't put it in your suitcase), tell 'em you are pierced at a very private part of your body, and you didn't want to take the chance that it would set of the metal detector, so you took it out for the duration of the trip. Trust me, nobody will have a closer look at your . . . um . . . body part, to see if there's a hole going through the top.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
