So they killed three times as many by ...accident?

I suggest you take a tour of Ukraine, Belarus, or western Russia...St Petersburg (Leningrad)or Volgagrad (Stalingrad) Sevastapol, Odessa even Donetsk (Stalino) and walk in some of the parks and memorials.

Maybe it wasn't systematic that they pounded Sevastapol for 400 days with the largest artillery piece ever made? Perhaps it was bad weather that killed 1 million + people in Leningrad? Maybe it was a mistake that 400 women and children were led to a bomb crater in Donetsk and shot?

To me, one of the most profound things I take from having lived there, having relatives there and owning property there is that I am very glad we do not see memorials and plaques in this country that read what theirs do.

Kira's grandmother watched her mom, two sisters and a brother get machined gunned down while her and her family were in a German labor camp and none of them were Jewish. But the Jews did get it worse then anyone else...well the Jews and the Roma.

But what was worse? The NAZI's or the Commies? They were both equally evil pr*cks who had zero regard for human life. The RUB countries celebrate "Victory Day" yet where's the celebration for the fall of the USSR? Karaputy outside of Minsk is full of thousands bodies with a GRU/NKVD bullet in the back of their heads yet Minsk keeps that hush hush.

The US should have dropped the big one on Berlin and Moscow. We had Patton and we could marched to Moscow in a few months if not sooner and wiped those commie butchers of the face of the map like we should have done.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I do not have the fortitude to listen to the stories my MIL can tell of when she was a young girl during NAZI occupation. Sorry, can't do it.

People's perspectives are built on their experiences. Hers was that as a young girl, everything was "broken" as she recalls. People were just killed for no reason she could fathom. Her father was killed. Her little friends she tried to go to school with were killed. Why? What does a girl 6 or 7 or 8 years old know?

Then things got better. No one else got killed (that she knew of) and things continued to get better all her life. We may not think they are "better" but she did.

Kira's family..especially her grandmother and great uncle do the war story thing. I listen politely but I always get my two cents in afterwards. Right across the street from the ZAGS office where we tied the knot is a giant statue of that murdering butcher Lenin. I wanted to puke.

I mean lets be honest. The RUB people are about the most brainwashed peeps you will come across. They had decades of getting their heads washed and rinsed by the commies, and century's of the same bs from the ROC and now look at them.

What they don't say in those story's is how they looked at the Germans as hero's who came to the rescue until the Germans showed their true colors and started with the mass butchering.

But we also mean Never Again shall ANY society be subject to genocide and mass brutality. Tragically, we have failed. Within living memory of the Holocaust we've had genocides in Bosnia, in Cambodia, in Rwanda. And we've had mass brutality in countless other places. None of this should be acceptable to any of us. It's an outrage to the philosophy of "Never Again".

I don't blame you for being angry about what the NAZIs did to your people. Not in the least. In fact, if I was a Jew I probably would be every bit as angry as you are, the same way I would be outraged as a fundamentalist Muslim about the U.S.'s execution of Osama Bin Laden.

But when listing all the genocides happening since the Third Reich's demise, don't forget the deliberate and ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, executed by the Israeli Jews. Then again, they're just Goys, right? Thinking about it, the NAZIs conception of non-worthy humans isn't really so different from that of the 'chosen people' in regard to non-Jews.

It's easy to throw stones, isn't it?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

We will differ on this Kip. I will not interject my two cents on someone that endured what those people endured. If I have any differences with what they believe I keep them to myself. There are statues of Lenin everywhere, Donetsk has "Lenin Square" with perhaps the biggest Lenin statue in the FSU  If you think I will argue the point with my MIL you are mistaken.

It seems like you are maybe a generation removed. It was Kira's grandmother, not her mother, that was there, for example. My father was in WW2, not my grandfather. I saw the burn scars on my fathers back every time he took off his shirt when I was a young boy. I just knew it was "from the war" It wasn't until later he gave me details and it is not a pleasant story and nothing I would ever want to do or experience.

I also have children and can imagine my children experiencing what my MIL experienced as a little girl. Can you imagine how she is silently happy that her daughter and grandchildren do not see what she saw?

Nope, I do not enter political argouments wioth my MIL and very few with people in Ukraine. I do have one friend there, Dimar, with whom I can have fun, spirited debates with no hard feelings. Otherwise I let it go.

It's a shame that we screen for Nazis in the immigration process but not for the openly anti-Semitic.

You know all those Brits that were getting bombed nightly? They can thank the Russians for that just as much as the Germans. No Soviet materials, no bombs being dropped on the heads of Brits, French, Danes, Norwegians, and Dutch. A shame?

I don't know.

But it's a fact that the U.S. cannot exclude Muslims and Christians and people who are objecting to the state of Israel in general from immigrating to the U.S. That would be racial and religious profiling, and that's something the U.S. does not engage in. If it did, no Muslim would be allowed to immigrate. Is that something what you personally would want? Only people who are politically and religiously in line with your beliefs should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S.?

Yes, well I do not argue for Stalin. I will disappoint you there. And no doubt the wormy politicians of the 30s are to blame for Hitler. They should have squashed him like a bug when he went into the Sudatenland. Instead they appeased him. Great idea.

we were just glad to have cutomers for bullets and bombs to get our factories going, we really didn;t care who was killed, just another of those European wars.

HIndsight is always much more clear, but the Sudatenland was IIRC mostly german and seemed to Cheer their invader on as they rolled in unchallenged.

A poor comparison would be like us attacking Iran for annexing a area full of Iranians who welcomed them.

There was a point to confront Hitler.... I just don't think that would have been reasonably it..... unless one had a crystal ball.

Except that it triggered all sorts of diplomatic activity culmanating in a document for Neville Chamberlain to wave around and say "Peace in our time" If there was no concern, what was all that about?

As a German, I'm troubled with the waste of taxpayers' money to hunt down people who are long dead, "only" dead, or about to die of a very old age.

As an American I'm trouble with how much influence the Jews not only have on U.S. policy, but German politics as well.

The Mormons marry their women to dead guys. Perhaps they thought of this

Justice is the highest ground.

The living have an obligation to see justice carried out, we have no standing to offer a "pass" due to age, as the crime was not done to us.

If solid proof can be produced to show, guilt......then very well.

I am doubtful at this late time such reliable evidence can be produced and I fear a witch hunt for anyone who wore a Nazi pin.
