In my job, we attend the oath ceremonies once a month (those are held once a month). People before entering to the oath auditorium are required to show their passports, USCIS officials check them to see if the applicants were out of the US after the interview. People who has travel out of the US within such period are not allowed to attend the oath ceremony.

I do not know why but that is what I have seen in such ceremonies. Please be careful giving advice.

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas & an a happy new year!!!

Marymoon.

I stand for my words and experience. You become a US citizen once and after you take your oath. As far as travel, the rules are the same as they were any time before you filled out the N-400. In other words, as long as the trip doesn't cause you to abandon your LPR status, and as long as it doesn't cause you to fail to meet the physical presence requirement, then it won't cause a problem with naturalization. At your interview and at your oath ceremony you'll be asked about any international travel -- you must mention your trip next time you speak with them.

They don't take your green card at the interview (unless the oath is the same day of the interview), you will surrender it at the oath ceremony. He can definitely travel on his passport and greencard until he has his oath. Ultimately it's a personal decision to seek more information and even asking about this during the interview and see what they say. People that I know I done this with not problem whatsoever.

I concur on that. Last August a friend of my left for UK from ORD ON the day of interview and came back two days before Oath Ceremony. Did not have any problem since it is a standard procedure to write any trips between interview and oath on the back of invitation form for the Oath Ceremony. The officer at the door asked him the same question before taking his GC.

Thanks Ingucis, Alice and Jemmi! My friends' interviews were under 20 minutes as well... I suppose it's just a generic message. It also says to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the interview as they have limited waiting space... I'm just thinking about my hubbie and the two kids (and making sure that our daughter has some pumped milk and such, she'll go ballistic without me for too long) - and how they will manage waiting for me.

my worrie is...my hubby may not even be in town.then i will have problem to find someone to watch my 2 year old(and then..who knows for how long) and pick my 5 year old up from school.i really hope that i get my interview when hubby is home.

You can take the kids to the interview if you have no other option.... Are you far away from the interviewing office? We have to drive 2 hours down to Denver, so it's not even an option to leave our 10 months old daughter with a different person - she has never been in daycare, nurses on demand and suffers from great stranger anxiety. If I left her with someone else for a minimum of 5 hours she would be screaming non-stop and refuse even pumped milk, it would be horrible. But luckily it's ok to bring your kids. DH luckily has the day off, he will tell his commander and squadron commander that the interview is that day so they won't schedule him for anything else. Phew. So he will wait with the kids, but I assume if she really freaks out they would allow DH, DS and DD to join me. But I think if it goes as quick as my friends' interviews, I'll be in and out in under 30 minutes and then be heading to Ikea as my 3 year old wishes to go back there (it's around the corner from the USCIS office) - he wants to ride the escalators up and down (hahahaha simple pleasures for 3 year olds!!!), and Ikea is excellent, cheap organic coffee :D

Merry Christmas to you guys :) We celebrated yesterday as DH is working today, so this is just any other day for me. We make Christmas the day that we are together as a family.
