Navyk,

Here is the latest update. VFS updated the status on my wife's passport, " YOUR PASSPORT HAS BEEN HANDED OVER TO BLUEDART FOR DELIVERY on 28-OCT-2011." Hopefully her passport is readily available to pickup at Hyderabad VFS office either on 31st of October or 1st November. By the way she will be flying to US on November 10th and that gives her plenty of time.

Any update on your wife's passport status? I am praying for you to see if it has been ready today to avoid your change of travel plans. Please keep us updated.

Thanks Ganesh for the update.

Praise the Lord for he good and His mercies endures for ever. As we approched the deadline, we received wife's visa in hand and we are on the way to the airport to Hyderabad.     . Thanks to everyone who prayed for us and encouraged us each step of our journey.

Since we have our return flights booked for Sunday, we were disparate to get wife's visa and passport today (Friday). We called 0120-6611411 but it was going round and round from voice mail to operator, as the owner of the number is not accepting voice mail (we are supposed to call this number between 9 and 10 AM, if VFS is unable to resolve our issues). So around 9:30 AM, I went to the consulate but they didn't allow me but asked me to come at 3 PM, when US Citizens get to enter the consulate without an interview.

So we packed everything at hotel and then I went inside the consulate and met a African American lady. I explained the full details and she took me to another Tamil lady and I had to repeat everything. She checked the system and said that wife's visa papers were sent to VFS and that we can go and collect those. It was a big relief.

We still didn't get any SMS from VFS and our SMS again failed. However we went to VFS and wife stood in line - third in line (I was not allowed inside). Then she received the SMS from VFS (please note that SMS will not work till VFS receives the visa packet from the consulate). She got the packet quickly and the sealed visa packet and the passport were in another big envelope. We opened the big envelope and checked the passport (VFS was advising us how to open the outer packet and how we need to keep the sealed packet intact).

Our cousin from Hyderabad booked our tickets from Chennai to Hyderabad by flight. We are now on our way to the Chennai airport. The feeling is great after a stressful 5 days. We get a day in Hyderabad and then our trip to Houston starts at 7 AM on Sunday.

It seems that Chennai VFS handed over the courier to Blue Dart on 10/28. My wife is planning to pick up the visa the next business day as soon as it arrives.

Navyk,

Nice to hear that both you are together finally. My wife did receive SMS this morning and her passport is readily available to be pickup at VFS hyderabad. She is on her way to Hyderabad and by Tuesday(11/01)morning she will pick her passport. By the way, I just moved to a different address here in United States. When my wife arrives at Port of Entry, does she needs to tell Immmigration authorities about my updated address or do I need to update my address on USCIS online? I am just wondering how to track her Greencard status online? I don't think address forward will work because USPS cannot forward any mail which comes from US Government.

Ganesh, ask her to tell them that you just moved and provide them with your new address, so that they can update the system to send the Green Card and the SSN to your new address. That should not be an issue.

I am not sure if we can track the physical Green Card status. The visa stamp states "Upon endorsment serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year" and the Immigration authorities at Houston stamped the "CR1 admitted stamp" with a portion falling on the visa stamp. They also gave us a sheet which states that we must get the condition removed 3 months prior to the second anniversary else will loose status and will be deported.

Congrats!! Wow, that went smoothly :D I'm very happy for you! I hope my interview in Stockholm is just as easy.

FYI

Husband went in with a folder full sheets with 9-pictures per sheet. First the officer asked the basic questions "how did you meet, etc." She asked the ages of the kids. She acted surprised to hear there are 5 kids (she obviously did not review the case beforehand), asked their ages and what is his relationship to them.

When he handed over the packet of photo-sheets, the officer took one look at the top sheet and immediately said, "We're done."

Easy interview, but no overt displays - no smiles. All business. Perhaps with the additional responsibility of processing other countries, the embassy is getting more efficient and less personal.
