Filipino Nurses in California

Hi everyone! I just wanna ask Filipino Nurses in California what documents will I need to prepare (while I'm still here in the Philippines) to be able to work as a registered nurse once I'm in CA.

Back story: I took and passed the NCLEX-RN exam last March 2010. During that time, I was still single. Now, I'm married to a very wonderful and amazing man last Feb 2011. Our case is now being reviewed in NVC (hopefully will be able to complete our case by next week *fingers crossed*). The thing is, the letter that was sent to me by the Board of Nursing in CA was addressed in my maiden name. Are there any necessary documents that I have to present in order to obtain my permanent registered nurse license? Thanks!

Call your Board of Nursing, or u can email them, i did emailed them and they replied me after an hour..my ATT is in my maiden name and I'm gonna change it to my married name, I am California Board too but I am here living in Missouri, I can change my Board but need to pay 50 dollars again, now, my plan is just to take the exam this October and transfer my Board of Nursing or let it be California board of nursing because we might be moving again to other state or country as my husband is in the army..

Try to call or email them sissy..it won't harm you if u inquire...best of luck to your journey..God Bless...

Thanks for the quick response :) The letter mailed to me by the BON in CA when I passed the NCLEX-RN exam was asking for a US social security number so that they can issue my permanent license. Of course, I still don't have a US SSN. Once my visa's approved and I migrated to CA, I'll be receiving my US SSN in a month after arriving right? My US SSN will be under my married name. I'm gonna pass my US SSN, present a marriage certificate (as proof of change of name) and fill out a change of name and address form?

You're gonna take the another NCLEX-RN exam coz you can't use your license since you're living in Missouri and you're registered in California? And the license endorsement costs $50?

Colleague, please note that you only need to pass NCLEX-RN exam ONCE. Whether you go for endorse or reciprocity later on, all you need to do is present the required docs by the board and that's it. NO NEED TO RETAKE NCLEX-RN. i guess the other lady has not taken the test yet. Read the instructions carefully and like everybody's saying: CONTACT Ca BRN. Good Luck!

as far as i know, red ribbon thing is only required if your applying somewhere in asia, australia, nz. I bet the american employers don't even know what a red ribbon is. hehehe... nwy, when i submitted my docs to US employer 4 years ago, there was no red ribbon attached to my docs and i was approved. Here in Texas,,, the transcripts had to be send from the college (Zamboanga) directly to the evaluation company,,, This was accessible by the Texas Board of Nursing,,,

the PI (VOL) Verification of Nursing License (Zamboanga) had to be sent directly to the Texas Board of Nursing,,, And, I assume the State got the NXCLEX results directly from PearsonVue (Test taken in Manila w/ATT from Texas BON)...

Basically, all official documents were transferred directly to the entity validating them. I assume to eliminate fraud.

What a great relief. :content: One applicant (older than most of us there) during my CFO seminar kept on insisting that we (the younger applicants) should have our documents red ribboned. She's going to Alaska and mentioned that it is required. But yeah, most of us, doubted her.

Re the NCLEX-RN exam, I believe paying $50 for the endorsement of license to other state seems a wiser move than retaking it (unless the license is already expired). Like in my case, BRN of CA stated that I'm only given three years (since passing the exam March 2010) to provide a US SSN, if I won't be able to give them one, they're gonna destroy my file and I have to repeat the whole process once again. :dead:

if you plan to go for endorsement, check the requirements of the other board of nursing you're applying to and just follow the instructions and you should be fine. i suggest you do the endorsement now while you're still in PI coz it normally requires a lot of stuffs.

i am Ca licensed RN (i have SSN) and also NC licensed as well (through endorsement). Unless cali is now a member of compact state(s), then you can go for reciprocity. but the last time i checked, it's not. nwy, good luck!

Thanks for the advise! I have no plans of endorsing my license to another state. :P My hubby lives in California :) I just got confused on sofaraway's case regarding retaking the NCLEX-RN exam. I wanna prepare everything before migrating in CA and eventually work as a RN. I guess I have nothing to worry about anymore. All I have to do is bring the NCLEX-RN exam result's letter, present a US SSN once it's available, obtain my permanent license and work! NO more red ribbon and stuffs!

The letter they sent me saying that I have passed the NCLEX-RN exam is the same form I'm gonna fill out and send back right to them via courier services? Please do correct me if I'm wrong. :help: The letter I've received goes like this:

File #XXXXXX

March 30, 2010

MY NAME

MY ADDRESS

SUBJECT: Social Security Number (SSN)

Dear MS. maiden name

This notification that you have passed the NCLEX-RN examination and that you have met all other licensing requirements except for submitting a valid US Social Security Number (SSN). Your SSN is needed in order to issue a permanent RN license.

Please submit your SSN on the form below. When you obtain your SSN, you are advised that you must also promptly report it to all appropriate agencies, such as California Franchise Tax Board.

If you do not provide your SSN to the Board of Registered Nursing within three years from the date of this letter, your application will be considered abandoned and your file will be destroyed.

NAME: _________________________

CURRENT ADDRESS (if different from above): ___________________________

US SSN:_____________________

I certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of California that all statements, answers, and representations in this form are true and correct.

SIGNATURE: ______________________ DATE:____________________________

When I fill out this letter/form, I'm gonna use my married name, current address (in CA) and signature (of course, also in married name). Then, can I include in the packet the change of name and address form (hard copy/printed and filled out) together with the proof of US SSN and a photocopy of my marriage certificate? So that they're all in one package? Can that be enough? Thanks in advance! :)
