So my wife and I filed her packet on March 11th at the Phoenix office (typically a 3 to 4 month process) and it has been about 7 months since our priority date and no hint of an interview in sight. We are not really sure what to think any longer as every time that we try to make an inquiry into what in the world is taking so long we get a different opinion (from USCIS). We have tried phoning, infopass, and even getting our congressman involved and nothing seems to help. Has anyone else here had an experience where their AOS case took about double the time of everyone else's case at their local office? If so did they eventually get approved? Any thoughts would be appreciated as really we are just worried that something is brewing that is going to lead to disaster.

Ours took much longer than others as well. One problem we found was with the mail. They had sent the info to us but it was returned even though we had done the change of address. We found we had made one mistake in not putting my name in the mail box. We went to Info Pass in Phx as you did. They said it would take at least 60 days to have the info sent back to us. They arrived the next day. Check with USPS to make sure of what address they have & who is listed.

Thanks for the advice! I'm just glad to know that ours isn't an isolated incident.

I hope you didn't send your package directly to the Phoenix office - that is the wrong place. You need to send it to Chicago. If you did send it to Phoenix, that might explain the month lag between sending the package and getting your NOA1. That month is not USCIS fault at all. You can start counting from the NOA1, which is April 9th. Furthermore, you had an RFE which you did not send back for another month. You can also discount that month, because the whole application was on hold or paused due to your error.

So if we count from April, we are at 5 months, and subtract a month due to RFE, we are at 4 months.

I have read that the Phoenix office is backed up, so 4 months might be reasonable. Good luck.
