* Good: “The Ford Motor Company agreed to add 12,000 jobs and invest $6.2 billion in its United States plants in a new four-year labor contract with the United Automobile Workers union, the company said Tuesday. It also will give most workers guaranteed bonuses of at least $12,000, raise entry-level wages by several dollars an hour and move some work to the United States from other countries. Ford said the jobs and investment numbers included 6,250 jobs and $1.4 billion that it had previously announced.”

Damn unions. Higher wages, more jobs and more investment? Bonuses for the rank and file? What's next? Paid vacation and sick leave?

What's next? A bail out of Ford because they cannot compete with the American made Japanese cars.

Why is it OK that other American employers hire illegals to avoid all these things and it is "racist" to even ask for ID?

You know those kinds of bonuses will just hurt sales while CEO bonuses improve company performance.

How about employers that do not pay for Social Security, Medicare, workman's comp., state unemployment, federal unemployment, benefits of any kind, do not provide safety equipment by hiring illegals

I guess the UAW better start getting passports! I wonder how long before Ford becomes an " import "

Ford breaks ground on new India plant

Published by Steve Coleman on September 06, 2011

Ford has broken ground on its new manufacturing plant in western India.

The addition of the state-of-the-art plant at Sanand, Gujarat, is expected to increase the automaker's capacity to 270,000 units annually.

Ford plans to spend US$1 billion on its overseas properties in the next few years to boost its production numbers. The new plant in India will be built over the next two years and become operational by 2014.

It's expected the plant will have a workforce of 5,000 workers, engineers and officers. Ford India is also planning to expand its powertrain unit in Chennai by next year at a cost of US$72 million.

You think Ford's management team is so inept that they would agree to a contract that will snuff out the company? It's a poorly managed company?

Why would they be different than GM or Chrysler? In what way are they better? OR do they just not worry about thinking that "hey we will get one of those bailout things just like the other auto manufacturers did"

Maybe they should just dump all the unions and hire illegal aliens and save a ton of money and STILL get protection from Democrats.

They build cars where they sell them. They grow where there are growing markets. What a novel concept. Oh wait, it ain't all that novel. Ford has manufactured cars outside the US for decades. Specifically those that Ford sold and is selling well, you guessed it, outside the US. It's why opening plants in Europe decades ago, for example, hasn't made Ford an "import" to date. They make and sell cars there that you won't find at your local Ford dealer here.

You really gotta ask?

Did Ford need to be bailed out like GM and Chrysler? No.

Was the UAW part of all three companies? Yes.

Is it reasonable, then to assign the blame for the bailout needed by GM and Chrysler to the union? No.

You did not answer the question.

You did not answer the question.

So I have to spell it out like one would do to explain this to a pre-schooler? Fine. The expansion into emerging and growing markets will not cause Ford vehicles to become "imports". If that was the case, Ford cars would have become imports long ago since Ford has expanded into the then strongly growing European market back in the 1950's.

I did not ask about them becoming imports. Perhaps you answered some other question and not mine?

That's perhaps because you responded to my post quoting the OP stating that I haven't answered the question - not your question. Now, there was only one question in the OP and I thought I had addressed that. If there was a question in your post that you think I attempted to answer but in your opinion did not, then you should perhaps have quoted the response of mine to you that from your perspective attempted but failed to answer your question.

or we could look at the lack of government aspect. You being a lib I totally understand why your mind went directly to unions.
