Wasn't he convicted by a Yemen court in absentia? Not that it makes it a death warrant, but I think it is a bit disingenuous of Luckytxn to lie like that. I think most people would feel a lot more comfortable with this had we caught, tried and executed him. But how realistic is that? I think much like Bin-Laden, he would not be taken alive.

What crime was he sentenced for in Yemen? Of course, you are entitled to face your accusers in a US court, so such a conviction wouldn't stand muster in the US. If the Yemenites wanted him killed, they should have killed him themselves.

Bill, do you really think that he could have been detained and brought to trial in the U.S.? I don't think that was ever an option as he always travelled with an armed convoy. He was convicted in January of inciting others to murder foreigners.

One could argue that we started down the slippery slope with the patriot act and attacking Iraq. Taking prisoners and keeping them in gitmo was a public relations fiasco.

Then we ended up letting em go so they could attack again. Once you buy that we are at war, this guy was just another enemy combatant.

Actually people never discuss the PR aspect of Gitmo because generally speaking Americans don't care what the rest of the world thinks

In fact you are correct to spotlight it because it has supplied the fuel for twisted Moslems to kill many American personnel -- as to did Abu Ghraib
