I don't agree with his answer, but I understand his line of thinking.

I don't understand his line of thinking.

I had a discussion with my cousin last night. We ran into a Palestinian owner of a nearby liquor store. Somehow we got onto the topic of religion.

I said that Muslims absolutely LOVE Jesus. That in many ways Christians have more in common with Muslims than Jews.

He somehow thought Muslims didn't give a sh!t about Jesus. That to Muslims He was a nobody. They didn't like Him. Et cetera.

I told my cousin I'd investigate and send him some links later cause I wasn't 100% sure but I was about 99.9% sure.

So basically what I knew to be true was. Jesus is mentioned even more times than Mohammed in the Qu'ran. They absolutely love Him. He is considered to be a Messiah sent from God. Someone that performed miracles including healing the blind. Born of a virgin. And that Jesus will return to the earth near judgment day to restore peace.

Sounds pretty similar to what Christians believe (besides the fact that they believe Him to be the Son of God and not human). What other religion besides Islam and Christianity believe this way about Jesus? tongue_ss.gif

That makes sense to me, but to a Fundamentalist, they like Jews because they believe they are God's Chosen People, and apparently to them, that means that God plays favorites. They also believe fervently that anyone who isn't a Christian will go to hell. To be fair, the more conservative Muslims also believe that only Muslims get into heaven. Religious fundamentalism has turned God and heaven into an exclusive club.

I don't want to go to heaven. I don't like harp music and I'm allergic to clouds.

Besides, to paraphrase Groucho Marx, I wouldn't want to belong to an exclusive club that would have me as a member.....

A lot of non-Muslims think as your cousin does, but all that you discovered is true. Muslims love Jesus (pbuh); he is one of the greatest prophets of God (swt) for us. It's one reason why you don't see Muslims debasing Jesus in response to Christians who debase Muhammad (pbuh).

While we don't believe Jesus was divine, he didn't die on the cross and will return on the Day of Judgement. We're also enjoined to accept the Torah and the Gospel as Messages from God. The Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the only female mentioned by name in the Qur'an; Surah 19 is named for her.

I don't understand his line of thinking.

Any Muslim who believes that only Muslims will enter heaven doesn't know their faith. God (swt) makes it very clear that not all Muslims will enter heaven, and that there will be Christians and Jews who will because he isn't interested in our labels, but in our acts and intent. He warns us not to think of ourselves as His chosen people. We are not and don't know who is.

The idea that some Christians think that Jews are the Chosen People makes no sense to me if they also think they're going to hell for not accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior

Now what I am trying to figure out (which I probably could on an internet search - but better to ask you) is what is Mohammed and how does he (He?) compare to Jesus?

I was kinda thinking you have 1 God in your religion. And that Mohammed is the next in line. And that possibly (although not sure) Jesus is the next most important in line?

But not sure what you guys think of Mohammed?

OK, quick wiki review: Muhammad in Islam

Seems as though Muhammad is not a God...Definitely human. He is not worshiped, he was the last of 6 prophets, and is the reason the Qu'ran is in print...Does that sum it up?

The Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the only female mentioned by name in the Qur'an; Surah 19 is named for her.

That is not a positive thing to have only 1 woman mentioned by name in the entire Qur'an although I see your point that it was the mother of Jesus.

Muhammad (phuh) is the final prophet of God (swt) aka the Seal of the Prophets. He is the last of a long line of God's messengers throughout the world which also include, but are not limited to, Jesus, Moses, Adam, Abraham, Noah, David (pbut). The Qur'an tells us that there are prophets who are greater than others, but it's not our place to rank them, so I don't.

I was kinda thinking you have 1 God in your religion. And that Mohammed is the next in line. And that possibly (although not sure) Jesus is the next most important in line?

The most odious and unforgivable sin in Islam is shirk, the partnering of the One God with others. There is no next in line to Allah. He is unique. We don't rank the prophets.

But not sure what you guys think of Mohammed?

I don't do Wikipedia lol

Muhammad was one in a series of men chosen by God to preach the Message of God, in his case, to the Arabs, who were mostly pagan. The Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel over a period of 23 years and his revelations were compiled as the Qur'an after his death. He was a man, and is not worshiped, but is considered to be a "walking Quran", the best example of the practice we are to follow to obtain God's pleasure.

That is not a positive thing to have only 1 woman mentioned by name in the entire Qur'an although I see your point that it was the mother of Jesus.

There are other women in the Qur'an, but they are not mentioned by name.

Thank you for asking. All knowledge is from Allah.

Last question. I know it is EXTREMELY IGNORANT. I compare it to cherry-picking 1 line out of the bible (which I do sometimes - here is today's bible quote).

So my cousin says that Muslims want to take over the world. They believe in world domination. Something like that.

It is the ultimate goal for the Muslim community!

How would you respond to a statement like this?

Muslims can't take over the world. It already belongs to God.
