3. the calling card of fiscal conservatives is that allowing the wealthy to benefit is the engine of economic growth and job creation. You should be very pleased that the wealthy might benefit.

I don't agree with you, fwiw. We have OTC and exchange traded markets for electrical power and for weather futures, so I don't see what's so alarming or strange about carbon emissions trading.

Having said those things, nothing prevents you too from benefiting from this mad plan. Here's the Dec 2012 contract. If you had sold it in May at $18 you could buy it back now at $11. That's a tidy profit for a 6 month holding period. Call your broker now to participate in the exciting carbon emissions market ........
