Hi everyone,

I just filed my AOS last week after getting my K1 visa. We got married and filed for AOS. Now the paperwork is done and I am at home bored! Used to work in Canada but here I know I cant work until my EAD is approved. What did you guys do in the spare time?

Anyone in a similar situation? I was thinking maybe take a few courses here and there..but would i be able to enroll.. or be considered an international student? How about volunteering somewhere..pls share your experience..

Thanks :)

Cant work at all without EAD or GC.

And in our state cant go to school without a green card and if you don't want to pay international student fees then you need proof of 1 year of residency in the state.

SO ... i did yard work, worked on my garden took up some new hobbies drove around a lot getting used to the shops and area. Met friends of my husband and made friends with their wives etc. Looked into possible job areas while I had to wait and looked into volunteer jobs while I waited.

The time will seem slow, but before you know it, you'll be working again, so take this as a nice long vacation!

I tried to make everyday a new adventure. I explored my neighbourhood, join the gym and got into super shape, looked for jobs and really perfected my resume and my interview skills. I went to the library a lot and got out books and spent time reading all kinds of things... fiction, non-fiction, magazines, books on interview skills (this was really helpful).
