Williams Jr. apologizes for comparing Obama to Hitler

Hank Williams Jr. apologized Tuesday for comparing Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during an appearance on Fox News Channel. In a note posted on his official website, Williams thanked his supporters and explained that he let his enthusiasm for politics get the best of him when he made the remark:

"I have always been very passionate about Politics and Sports and this time it got the Best or Worst of me. The thought of the Leaders of both Parties Jukin and High Fiven on a Golf course, while so many Families are Struggling to get by simply made me Boil over and make a Dumb statement and I am very Sorry if it Offended anyone. I would like to Thank all my supporters. This was Not written by some Publicist."

As far as apologies go, it's better than a non-apology apology but not as good as a full mea culpa. Williams includes that classic unrepentant qualifier "if it offended anyone," which tends to serve as code for, "I don't really think I should be apologizing, but I'm not so stubborn that I don't realize one is needed."

Williams' intro to "Monday Night Football" was pulled from ESPN following the comments. The network has not said whether Williams' trademark "Are you ready for some football?" will kick-off next week's broadcast.

Also, Hank, I'm pretty sure adding that the statement was "Not written by some Publicist" was unnecessary. The use of "Jukin and High Fiven," "Boil over," and oddly-placed capitalized words were a pretty good indicator it wasn't.
