Hello, I agree that the passport needs to be updated. I have a question about Delta Airlines. I've not been able to get into the website for leaving Nigeria... I have gone to KLM, after a layover there is a transfer onto Delta Airlines. How are you getting onto Delta? and have you compared prices between KLM and Delta..... And Congrats on getting The Visa!!! We are up on Friday!

The World is Yours to Experience....Venture out into it and find Love!

Thanks Lagoslove.

The only way you can get flight information from Delta is to call their international phone number @ 234 1 279 9000 (Lagos Nigeria). They will not let you search online for flights from Nigeria.

One of the websites I went to is bt-store to search flights from Nigeria to the US.

May God Bless you and your SO that He will show you Favor on your interview.

Hey Naijaboy, I found an image for the epassport here: NEW EPASSPORT PIC

If you notice on this pic of the passport cover there is a little rectangle box with a circle in it on the bottom of the cover. That is the symbol for 'epassport'. I presume the older cover passports don't have that.

Where did you get the image for the new passport? I have seen my fiances passport and it does not look like the one here. He must have the old one. Am asking so maybe I can try and find a photo of the old one & determine if it is valid for his travel to the states.

Thanks

I got the image from Wikipedia.org.

Apparently the way to tell the old from new is that the new one has on the bottom front cover a black rectangle with a circle in the middle (Epassport symbol), whereas the old one does not. Click here for more detail: new Nigerian epassport

I also looked at mine (U.S.) and I noticed that my previous passport I used before I got married does not have it, but the new I got when I changed my name does. Not sure if that matters as far as the U.S., but good to know mine is up-to-date also.

Yes well that is why I am concerned now cause according to the discussion am I right in hearing IF he has the Old passport he will not be able to leave with that passport? Hmmm ...not sure... a little confused now :help:

And if his old one is no longer valid for travel from Nigeria... do you know how long it will take to get the correct one and from where we can obtain the correct one? He will soon be doing his police certificate & medical exam and I dont want any delays as the interview will be here Dec. 16th

Thanks in advance!

Yes according to the Delta website, and other members comments here, he cannot leave without the updated passport, as well as another member's statement that the Visa will not be issued in an old passport (which makes sense). So all the more reason to check into if he has a current passport or not.

Don't know how long it would take, but perhaps there is also an expedite process. Go here to see how to get a new one: Obtaining a Nigerian Passport. Good Luck to you both on your upcoming interview.

Man ... I am reading the website about the passports and I am SO confused now. I dont know if he has the Wrong passport or just an outdated one. Would you happen to know who I can call "state side" so that I can find out if he needs a new one. I know it can be a slow process here so can only imagine in Nigeria how long it may take and the interview will be up mid Dec. No sense in having a visa in a passport that will not allow him to travel freely WHEN he gets approved. Anything else you can add or think of would be great. Thanks so much!

The one he would need is the 'Standard' one, unless he is a civil servant or diplomat...then he would get the 'Official' one.

For questions stateside, go to Consultate General, Atlanta. If you are not sure his passport is up to date or not, what I did was send my hubby a pic of the new one and asked him if his looked like that...specifically with the symbol at the bottom. He may have the new one, and you are pulling your hair out for nothing.

Here is the number he could call from Nigeria to check also:

U.S. Consulate General Lagos

2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos

Telephone: 234 (1) 460-3600 during office hours

(Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

U.S. Embassy Abuja

1075 Diplomatic Drive, Central Area, Abuja

Telephone: 234 (9) 461-4176 during office hours (Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.).

Yes, I thought of sending him a pic AFTER I posted the comment...lol...sorry. And I have just sent him the photo from the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nigerian_ePassport.jpg and he looked at his and confirmed that is is EXACTLY as he said the same.

Whew!!! I think maybe I need to just breathe a little more. That is kind of hard at this point considering the countdown is on and will be here before you know it. I am feeling like I am on a mad dash to find out ALL there is to know about anything that could go wrong and prevent ALL future questions or problems BEFORE they occur or come up... HA! Imagine that... Who in the world do I think I am ... {exhale}

LOL! I know exactly how you feel. I panicked big time when I first found out about the newer passports.

And as far as trying to find out everything before problems...well I'm sorry to say it doesn't end with the interview **sighing** I'm at the airline ticket stage **fist pump** and I'm worrying now about the airline ticket/flight here, but I'm looking at that as a good thing because we're almost finished Praise God!
