Oh I have been in touch with my nature for quite some time now :)

You keep referring to Bush as if I and others were Shills for him as you seem to be for Obama.

Policies, Danno...policies. When looked at on paper, Obama's policies such as his tax rebates for trading in old gas guzzlers for more fuel efficient cars was no different than Dubya's tax rebate for mammoth SUV's, except for the intended consequences. Someone needed to point out the hypocrisy from the RWNutters who regurgitate RWNut media talking points like, "Cash-for-clunkers" as if they've actually got something intelligent to say. You happened to harp in on the Chevy Volt. You nutters don't do this because of any perceived failure of policy, but because you've got it in your infantile minds that libruls make preposterous policies of investment while being deaf, dumb and blind to all the policy disasters that have cost our country enormous amounts of money and still do at the hands of so-called 'conservatives'.

LEts deal with the facts here my friend.

Obama is elected in 08

Cash for clunkers began july 09

To copy Bush's plan would have been bad enough, but Under Obama there was a requirement that the Engines be disabled, rendering 690,114 cars to the scrap yard.

$2.877 billion in rebates were handed out.

A huge shortage in the Secondhand market drove the cost up for low income people.

When all was said and done it led to a gain in market share for Japanese and Korean manufacturers at the expense of American car makers, with only Ford not taking a significant hit.

All the RWnut babble does not change these facts.

At some point in time you have to get over Bush and allow Obama to answer for what he is doing to this country with nearly every action he takes.

LEts deal with the facts here my friend.

Facts show Bush's Clash for Clunkers program gave more back. Your opinion loses and the facts win.

Here is the Cash for Clunkers program that was in place during the Bush Administration. The bonus depreciation provisions put in place after 9/11 provided a 50% immediate tax deduction for the purchase of Large SUV’s. So when my boss purchased a $100,000 Range Rover he wrote off $50,000 on his taxes. Assuming a 35% federal tax bracket – this resulted in an immediate tax refund of $17,500 on the purchase of the Range Rover (even though the down payment may have been $10,000). $17,500 cash for the purchase of a 12 mpg Range Rover.

Now that’s “Cash for Clunkers” we can believe in.

You keeps saying "Cash for Clunkers" under Bush.

Are you saying the Gov't gave cash in exchange for trade in cars?

Because as far as I know, it was a tax break that was given.... which is nothing like the Obama Cash for Clunker program where they were actually turning perfectly good cars )in many cases) into scrap.

The main problem I have with the plan was the destruction of all those cars when we had people right here in this country who could have used them to look for work or give them a hand-up.

THink about it, the Gov. paid thousands for each vehicle and then threw them in the trash when so many people in need could have bettered their life with them.

Thats just no right.

More than half of the cars and trucks SUVs are old and ready foe the scrap heat for a cool melt down. They cost too much for repairs for passing smog test.

If we took your claim at face value.....

Thats still leaves 345,000 good cars scrapped!

There weren't any Charity or community groups that could have used them?

Battered Women trying to get on their feet?

Handicapped people who can't use public transportation?

College Students needing to comute?

Not only did they selfishly condemn those vehicles to the trash heap, they drove up the price of the market making it that much harder for people in challenging situations to find a way.

Thats not right.

LOL DFH you sure have some patience replying to this post. Even before i clicked on this post i thought to myself "i bet they blaming Obama for Volt's failure. Sure enough! Also, I just find it funny how it is now a good thing to boycott American cars because they took bailout money. My brain is now full of dumb after coming here.

What was the kelly blue book value on these junk cars?

Most junk yards will pay $250 to $350 for a piece of non-running junk. But it barely gets better if the piece of junk is running.

Nobody wants a rust bucket with 230k miles on it. I buy / sell cars regularly and I wouldn't buy a piece of junk for $1000...

To give an idea: I bought a good running Mazda MPV mini van for $900. Year 2001. Ran like a champ. I put $450 into paint and can't remember what else but my total cost was $1600....I sold it no problem for $3200 to the second person that viewed it (last week).

Point is you can get GOOD cars if you search hard enough for $1000......But the BAD / CLUNKERS / JUNK are worthless. I would never pay $1000 or $1500 for these piece of junk 1992 and 1993 junk vehicles...They are worthless and full of problems.

So what did the government give them?

Also, for $3000 to $4000 you can get an AMAZING fully loaded vehicle that drives like new. 02 to 06 year all day long depending on the car.

Mazda I bought for $900 (pictures after I detailed it):

Oh, that's what it was....Another $260 for a matching sliding door...

I doubt most people have time or knowledge to spot a good deal. Most people just want to get something reliable, that's why most people prefer to get a new car. New cars have warranties, majority of people don't know anything about fixing cars. $450 for a paint job? I'm thinking you painted it yourself. Most people can barely paint the walls in their house let alone a car. So good for you that you can fix a car. Pat yourself on the back. Just don't assume everyone can do what you can do.

- Most cars sold are second hand. Forgive me but you seem a bit out of touch to presume everyone can buy a new car, because they "prefer" it.

-Let me quote your line back to you if I may.

don't assume everyone can do what you can do.

It's not like it's rocket science, I learned the same way a lot of people did, through trial and error, but also through years of fetching wrenches for my dad as a kid. It really isn't that hard to spot a good deal, but there are always ways to scam people. That is why many states have consumer protection laws regarding auto sales.

BTW, love your new sig Danno, that video gets me every time.

rendering 690,114 cars to the scrap yard.

$2.877 billion in rebates were handed out.

Almost $4200 per car...

VirJq.png

Maybe I'll post a pic in a minute but I bought an 03 Jeep Liberty Limited with cream interior, leather seats, heated seats, dual power seats, power windows/locks.....For $4100...I would have got it for cheaper but we needed to finance and it was a convenient situation because he owed $4100 to the bank so we just took over the payments....Try to explain to a private seller that you want to finance with them...Not gonna happen...

We did pretty good but I did have to spend about $300 to repair the front drive shaft....wheel alignment....a tie rod....oil change....Pretty much immediately put about $500 into it....

Point is for $4100 I got a sweet Jeep fully loaded....And the gov't handed out a $100 more than I paid for a used hunk of junk....

I'm not sure what the argument you are trying to make is but that's a damn good deal for the sellers of junk and that the cars were scrapped. Considering every "we buy junk cars" ad you see is for $250 to $350, rofl.gif
