I know that when we filed DCF in Sweden (which is no longer possible) we had to be able to prove that the U.S citizen had been a resident for at least sex months. If you have only been a resident for two months, I think you will have to wait four more months if you want to go the DCF route.

I am not 100% sure, but I think DCF is no longer available and you will have to file everything thru the USCIS in US.

It is still possible in countries with USCIS offices, and Italy is one of these: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=1ac900c262197210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=1ac900c262197210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

Yes, you will have to wait for 6 months residency. Once the petition is approved, your wife can apply for a visa and will have a medical and interview.

If you are filing DCF, you don't send anything to the US/ the NVC, it will all be handled in Italy, in Naples I believe. The rules are a bit different for each US embassy, check here: http://italy.usembassy.gov/visa/iv.html
