K-1, Colombia, proof of evidence....

Hello all,

I'm in the final stages of preparing my K-1 package for my lovely fiance living in Bogota, Colombia. I think that I want to "front load" my petition with the "proof of evidence" information. I have all of the signed K-1 Documents ready to go. So now I'm working on the "proof of having met within 2 years" packet and the "proof of ongoing relationship".

First, I was told by people in the K-1 forums that it would be beneficial to ask questions in the Latin America forum so people can tell me specifically about their experiences with the Embassy in Bogota. Do you think it would be beneficial for me to "front load" my K-1 petition with evidence? If so, how much evidence? I have plane ticket stubs from 2 separate vacations to Colombia in July/August 2010 and April/May 2011. Should copies of the stubs/itineraries be put in the "proof of having met in 2 years packet", the "proof of ongoing relationship packet", or both? Is it necessary to show stubs of my return flights home to the USA, or just the flights that got me to Colombia? I had 3 connecting flights both ways so for one trip we are talking 6 total ticket stubs for EACH vacation, 12 total for both trips. I am also returning to Bogota December 16 2011 - January 8 2012 and I am going to include my itinerary for this trip too.

What kind of questions will they ask at her interview at the Embassy? Is there any type of information I should be wary of sending? What about moneygram receipts? I send her money on her birthday, for christmas, and for the last 6 months I've sent her money each month for an English class. Would it be beneficial for me to include copies of the moneygrams for "proof of relationship"?

Would it help to have my mother , who is a college english professor, write a letter that says my family knows we are in a relationship and they are supportive?

I will probably have more questions today and throughout the week. I'm going to be copying/labeling/organizing a lot of info and my goal is to have the entire packet ready to send by next weekend.

Any advice would be much appreciated. My fiance and I are very much in love and both our families are fully supportive. We have been committed and 100% honest and faithful throughout our relationship, and it would be devastating to get rejected in this process.

Thanks for all your help.

If you want you can send proof of your relationship now with the I-129F but keep in mind that you will most likely need to show additional proof the day of the interview. You can send anything you want, travel itineraries, ticket stubs, emails, chats, pictures, etc. All of those are valid and a pretty good way to proof your relationship.

At the embassy they will ask your fiancée basic stuff such as where did you meet, how do you communicate, when was the last time you saw each other, etc. If you have a straight forward case that should pretty much be it, but if there are any red flags the CO may notice, the interview would of course be more extensive.

Thanks for the tips....hopefully there will be no red flags because we are being 100% honest about everything and we are in a committed relationship.

I'm going to send pretty much everything I have as evidence with the I129-F packet. I'm sending the packet in within the next week. I'm going to visit her again December 16-January 8, and it would be awesome if her interview would land sometime during that time period but I think it will be a month or two later. During the vacation I will accumulate more of the same type of evidence....ticket stubs, receipts, pictures, etc. and I will make copies of all that stuff for her when she has the interview. I'd love to be able to attend the interview with her but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get off work for another vacation so soon after my winter trip.

Sounds like everything I'm sending. Thanks.

Another random question for you...underneath your profile picture it has some information about your filing location and local USCIS....I don't know what those are for me and my situation. I was under the impression I was just supposed to put everything in an envelop and ship it to the USCIS Dallas Lockbox. Do I find out the "filing location" and "local USCIS" later on in this process?

If you're referring to the info here on VJ, you can put the Dallas Lockbox as the filing location, you're local USCIS is the city where you would go for anything in regards to immigration, it's usually the city you live in.
