Can people give their experiences (and times) for doing AOS in the US vs. continuing the I130 process and going back to your home country for the processing and interview?

From reading posts, and reading through people's timelines, some say it takes up to a year to get your greencard (conditional if under 2 years of marriage), while others seem to take months.

I know it is a all a waiting game and just depends on if you are requested for more information, misfile something etc...but on average, who has filed AOS and who has gone back to their home country for CR1 approval? (must but many of you that did this because you live close by, in Mexico and Canada....??)
