This question seems most appropriate for the AOS section.

I've recently received my K-1 visa, and I'm planning to enter the US at the end of the month. During my medical, there was one vaccination (the second dose of MMR) which they couldn't give me because I'd had the first dose only a week prior, and there needed to be a gap of at least four weeks. I was told that I could either wait until I got to the US to have the second jab, or that I could get my own doctor to do it once the time had elapsed.

If I do the latter, what sort of proof will I need to present during the AOS process that the vaccination has been done?

Why not just get it done by your GP and then ask them for a printout of your vaccination record?

You don't have to get the second dose if you were up to date as medically appropriate on the date your vaccination form DS-3025 was signed at Knightsbridge. The blanket waiver box should be ticked. It was not medically appropriate to have the shot because enough time had not passed. Do you have Tdap or Td? Do you have VH marked beside Varicella (meaning you had chickenpox disease)?

You can send a photocopy of the DS-3025. You might attach to it this statement.

I was admitted as a K1 fiance and had a medical exam exam overseas less than one year ago and do not require another exam by a civil surgeon. My examination was on _________ at the Knightsbridge Doctors in London, England. My A-file should contain my medical results, as well as a properly completed DS-3025 showing that I complied with the vaccination requirements.

They will accept your Knightsbridge results and use that date to determine your eligibility. They will waive the "not medically appropriate" shot. A flu shot will also be waived because the date was before Oct 1.

The four "Not Medically Appropriate" categories are—

◦Not age appropriate

◦Contraindication

◦Insufficient time interval between doses

◦Not flu season

At the bottom of the form, the boxes ticked are "vaccine history incomplete" and "Applicant may be eligible for blanket waivers because vaccinations not medically appropriate". In the blanket waivers section of the form, I have various boxes ticked for "not age appropriate", "insufficient time interval" for Td and mumps (there was an odd situation whereby I'd had a measles-rubella vaccine years ago, then one dose of the MMR vaccine, meaning I was missing just the second dose of the mumps vaccine), "not required" for zoster and "not flu season" for influzenza. I also have VH beside Varicella, as I have previously had chicken pox.

Based on what the doctor told me at the time, I was under the impression that I'd need to get the remaining mumps jab before AOS. But perhaps that was medical advice and not specifically related to eligibility?

I would get them all done at home before travel, you will need to submit all you're evidence to a us civil surgeon in US for your AOS, they will review your shot record, look at your x-ray, test your for TB, we had a blood test and were done.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

You are eligible if you choose to do it that way. Lot's and lots and lots of people have without seeing a civil surgeon in the US to copy over their shot records to a new for (I-693).

From p.4 of the I-693 instructions:

Even if a new medical examination is not required, you still must show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS-3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will have to have the vaccination report completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you are required to submit Part 1, Information About You, Part 2, the vaccination chart and Part 5, the Civil Surgeon's Certification, of Form I-693.

Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Nich-Nick,

I agree with you! :) Your explanation made a lot of sense to me.

My wife is adjusting from k-1, and I mailed her DS-3025 with her AOS package this past Tuesday.

I think the issue of I-693 has confused a lot of people because of the interpretation or misinterpretation of the word "incomplete" taken out of context.

I would think most k-1 beneficiaries who received vaccination at their USCIS authorized foreign medical facility have "completed" DS-3025 for AOS. At least beneficiaries from China, as in the case of my wife, have the option to get vaccinations with CR1/IR1 beneficiaries. She was given a sealed envelope addressed to "USCIS Vaccination" with a DS-3025 in it. Your past and present advice of not seeking a CS here in the US for these beneficiaries has greatly benefited me, so I wanted to voice my support/opinion here :)

There may be some exceptions, for instance flu season etc, but for the most part, I would expect most cases to be OK with DS-3025.

Thank you once again for clarifying the I-693 myth :)

Bobby
