Poverty 125% in 2012

So! I really hate this topic because I just barely make it. I make a couple hundred over 20,000 at the moment, and the guide says like 18,300 something like that for 2 people.

Now, my income WILL be going up next year. :) But I assume that the poverty guides will be raising too?

Is there a way we can predict how much it will go up? I just want to know if I will make the 125% guideline when I file for AOS, because most likely we will file for AOS in 2012. Wouldn't that be frustrating if we got married and then at AOS had problems with the I-184?:bonk::help:

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

Nothing uneducated about it, the actual increase from 2010 to 2011 for 2 was $124 bucks. His post stating "about 175" was pretty much spot on, so your post is BUNK!

How is that an uneducated guess? He simply quoted the difference between 2010 guidelines to 2011 guidelines. He wasn't making any predictions about 2012 guidelines.. just simply stating that the difference between 2010 and 2011 guidelines was only $175. So it's safe to assume that following trends from the past years that poverty guidelines, that the raise will not be TOO substantial. Which the OP wanted to know since she's worried her income level might be affected by a n increase while she's filing for AOS.

My educated guess would be that due to the economy that poverty levels will not see a substantial jump next year... but be prepared to see an increase between $100 to $1000 just to play it safe. So hopefully your income will go up by $1000 before you apply for AOS. Also, if you can apply for AOS before they implement the 2012 guidelines then that would help you out also, but then you will be rushing to get married and filing your AOS. Safe bet is to find a cosponsor JUST IN CASE, if you want to sleep well at night. I have a cosponsor for AOS when the time comes, just in case something did happen to me (injury, sickness, death, etc.).

No way to predict precisely. The new guidelines are effective March 1 but do not take affect at the consulates until April 1. The increases are not usually large.

Look at what has occured in the past. Its the U S government. The U S fiscal year begins in Oct. The U S economy is a total disaster & in decline.

When you file for the AOS you can request a EAD card for Ice. You have said he will be working in your business as soon as he can do so legally.

By the time the AOS meeting occured he would have an income or if there is any doubt use your family as co sponsor. You have said they are willing to do that before.

Your present income is high enough to sponsor him now. No reason to think it wont be enough later.

The poverty guidelines are not based on the US economy. They're based on the consumer price index. If the economy tanks, and unemployment skyrockets, it won't affect the poverty guidelines unless consumer prices also go up at the same time. The CPI usually goes up each year, but not always. It didn't go up significantly between 2009 and 2010 because of the deflationary pressures of the recession. Consequently, DHHS didn't change the poverty guidelines in 2010.

I didnt say the guidelines are based on the economy.

I would think the economy is going to have everything to do with her future income & his because they are going to work together in a business she started. Or thats what she said in the past.

She indicates her income will improve. I hope so but simply pointed out consideration of the actions of the U S govenment. Those actions seem to have a realtionship to the economy realised by observing the stock market for example. The actions of that same government have certianly affect my income

The fact of the matter is it ain't gonna go up much if at all. So don't worry OP, it'll be OK :D
