We are thinking of applying for Residence Card for my wife's mother to visit only. She was turned down in El Salvador today and was told poor people do not get to visit the US. I had sent my mother in law a packet with I-134, a promise of support letter and all my financial records. Wife became a US citizen 6 months ago. Mother in law does not want to leave her husband, children and grandchildren in El Salvador. She only wants to visit. She is 63 and husband is 77. Embassy official told them to come back in a couple of years after they got jobs and established themselves.

Hello there, sorry to hear that she had a bad experience at the Embassy and your wife should be applying for her mother the form I-130 to start her process on the Green Card but I have to say that she will have to live in the US permanently and not only for visits or she will loose her status as a legal resident of the US. Why you guys don't visit her instead of her come to visit you guys thinking that she don't want to leave her family behind? Just think again a Green Card is not a visitor visa a B1/B2.

You could try obtaining the GC, then turn it in for a tourist visa. By saying "I have this permanent resident card, but I want to give it up because what I really want is to visit only" you may convince them to issue tourist visa. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

We ;have a 2 year old and a 5 day old........ It would be easier for her to come here than the 4 of us travel there.

Seems a bit extreme, but it has been done before.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
