Hello all! :star: Happy friday!

I know the matter about the birth certificate translation for AOS has been discussed before. A friend of mine is currently taking care of the translation and she is asking if it needs to be literal.. I'll explain myself better: my birth certificate is very close to a declaration made by the person who was at the registry office that day, stating that this man (my father) presented himself in front of him telling him that a child was born and blah blah...

I've seen my fiancee's birth certificate and it's actually very different, it looks more like a chart with all the data  so I'm wondering if it would be better to do something more similar to it.

What do you guys think?

Thank you and blessings (F)

I will suggest that you translate literally your birth certificate. That is how i did it even though mine did not look like my husband´s birth certificate either. Make sure your friend can certify she is an accurate translator of your language. Hope this helps.

Hello,

is your friend from an EU country as well? I just got a new birth certificate from the authorities, which cost only 15 euros and took like 30 minutes. The new ones have translations into every EU language, so they are international. I don't know if it works like that in Italy, but it was really easy and smooth in Vienna, and believe my, our red tape stuff is usually pretty bad...

Thanks vickybranson and redsnap =)

I think I'll go for the literal translation then, and I'll check if there's something like the new birth certificate you are talking about, redsnap... Hopefully they'll help me. Thank you guys

I've seen "international" multi-language birth certs from Italy. We translated it anyway, because we filed for the CR-1 visa in the States and we were unsure if they would notice the tiny english print on the Italian international birth certificate. We translated it literally, but also in a way that was simple and made sense in english. I think because everything gets routed for us through Naples (via the NVC in the States), it was straightforward and the Italian consulate understood it. I'm unsure how a K-1 birth cert would get routed and who would read it (in the States??). A CR-1 is a little longer wait than a K-1, but many times we are glad that much of the "hassle" is behind us with paperwork...

suerte!
