Oh, now I understand! I was not aware that we have these helicopters everywhere that can swoop down and capture said terrorists. Are they also pilotless and unmanned? Or do we have tens of thousands of military members constantly in the air everywhere in these countries that are terrorist havens waiting to do these captures?

Or do you propose that we just let these people go the 999,999 times out of a million that we don't have the resources immediately available to do this? Yeah, I thought so. Supposedly we are at war (with radical islamist terrorists?) and you don't make arrests and have a trial when dealing with the enemy unless you have made a capture and have reason for judicial action. It is a gray area and the legalities and ethics involved are evolving. It does require a lot of thought and debate and I am sure we will not get near the end of that process anytime soon.

Anyways, different scenario- does anyone remember Brandon Mayfield, who the FBI swore up and down they had a 100% positive fingerprint match on some evidence found at the scene of the Madrid train bombing? He's married to an Egyptian woman, his family visits there-what if he'd been in Egypt, in the countryside or something, at the time that train bombing went down? If they had determined it would be too high risk to capture him there, what if they had just decided to send in a drone instead? When this all went down with Brandon Mayfield a few years ago, initially it sure looked bad. The FBI said the fingerprint was solid-it was only through due process that he was able to be exonerated. It should be utterly horrifying to anyone to imagine what kinds of miscarriages of justice can occur without it.

Even 'due process' can result in an innocent person convicted and executed! And would you also feel that OBL himself needed to have a trial before he could be executed? Just wondering...

Someone forgot their aricept this morning. The protest over the killing, man. The protest. It's nothing to do with awlaki himself, but over his curcumstances as a us citizen, accused of very grave crimes, but nevertheless still due due process, regardless of anything else.
