Whilst you may not, the experts do. How do you think the lion arrived in the zoo.

Just how many of our men and women are expendable in trying to capture these people ?

How many military families are we prepared to see parentless in order to sweet talk him to come back club class to the USA ?

We don't ask our Police to do it - we say if the guy is armed and dangerous and intent on murder, then shoot him - its legal, its constitutional and happens in the USA all the time

This guy with his gang, were armed, dangerous, wanted for murder and intent on more murder

If its good enough for 17 year old Curtis Mandela Shakasha Washington in Chicago on a Saturday night, its good enough for this guy

jeez how can I fly easy to the UK (and my daughter fly to the US) when all these people on VJ are feeling so sorry at a particularly nasty terrorist being killed ?

He was complicit in all those troops at Ford Hood being killed and stands equally guilty in that - does anyone feel sorry for their families ? ..and if he had been sent an email inviting him to turn himself in, would you have felt bad if his response was to kill another couple dozen Americans ? What would you have said to their families ?

Would it have started with " Well, in theory...." and ended with "He deserved another few months to consider surrendering"

Oh btw Gary....just ignore the State Department travel warnings...."You should be especially aware of safety and security concerns when visiting the northern border states of Northern Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas. Much of the country's narcotics-related violence has occurred in the border region. More than a third of all U.S. citizens killed in Mexico in 2010 whose deaths were reported to the U.S. government were killed in the border cities of Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana. Narcotics-related homicide rates in the border states of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas have increased dramatically in the past two years.

This is simply propaganda designed to get you to vote for Obama again.

What do they say about Montreal? Trois Rivieres? I'm afraid to look! We go there all the time and there are some seedy places in Montreal Nord. Also a really good charcouterie and place for viande feu and (OH NO!) they even speak a foreign language there! And then there are the Sexe Clubs, like Super Sexe, on Rue Maisonnueve and really just all over. The strip joints (known as the "Canadian Ballet" in Vermont) I mean c'mon, Montreal has all the naughty stuff you can imagine and it is all pretty much displayed openly. But it is almost as safe as Vermont

Alan, no one feels sorry for that guy as much as they are concerned about protecting our Constitution. The fact is, that is the rule book, the manual for running the country. It's our responsibility to make sure our leaders follow it, and not just make it up as they go along. People all over the country are asking where did the authority come from to kill Americans without due process? It's a good question because liberty is lost on a slippery slope.

I can say bad words in Russian. And French, but Russian ones are better...and badder.

Thanks, I read that during my research, but wasn't quite convinced. I'm now looking through FindLaw for precedent and commentary on earlier questions about this issue that have come before Congress and courts.

Have you evaluated the response by GREGORY S. MCNEAL ?

Pay particular attention to this.... “since al-Awlaki is allegedly a traitor accused of adhering to and giving comfort to the nation’s enemies, the Constitution establishes that he can only be executed after a conviction in an Article III court on the testimony of two witnesses to his overt act of treason…” This passage could mean that if the only charge against al-Awlaki is that he is a traitor, then the only means by which that charge can be resolved is through an Article III court, subject to the Constitutional requirements for convicting one of treason. If that is Alford’s claim I have no qualms with it.

Other detractors of Alford's essay have used specious logic to undermine his claims....like the ridiculous Gedanken conceptual questions about a terrorist on the steps of the white house with an RPG- obviously covered quite well by layers of criminal law.

Exactly so...well said.

I agree....Listening to Larisa's occasional exchanges with rude Belarusian clerks is pure art.

I only heard Alla say bad words once, outside of the bedroom, but OMG!!!!!!!!!! They were BAD and there were a LOT of them. Some woman cut right in front of her and nearly ran her off the road, Holy Mother of God! Then she started crying and apologized for her bad behavior. She hates when I swear in Russian and I tend to do it in public when no one knows what I am saying. (I use Russian because too many people speak French here, dammit!) But she says she will bite me.

On an educational or intellectual level, I have enough gongs hanging on my wall to stand toe to toe with most people on here, but I am not outstanding or a master in any of these areas and I don't brag that my brilliance confuses others or they cant keep up. My strength is in my background in the streets and in the down and dirty areas of life where the pure intellectuals have never been.

I know that any debater can be cut down to size by a simple statement of truth that everyone acknowledges to be 'self - evident'

The truth is that this clever, educated Moslem scholar the late unlamented, had morality back to front so his educational and intellectual accomplishments were worth NOTHING - just the same as some posters on here who sound just dandy, but who are urinating down the back of the American public and telling them it is raining - and setting out a fine educated-sounding reasoning for their weather forecast.

Alas they are vulnerable to Reaganesque, simple, common sense pricking of their balloons and murder is murder and this guy was a murderer and was un-arrestable and planned further murders and society had no choice and did the right thing.

That is such a simple little sentence but is unassailable, even by a 10 page treatise of pie in the sky theoretical clap trap

I am with the US government and against the apologists for, and excusers of, the terrorist murderers. I believe in the US constitution totally - and I believe this act was totally in accordance of how law enforcement/the army have always acted and thus was constitutional

This rag bag of truculent and unforthcoming Moslem posters and intellectual brainiac hippies on this thread should be formed into a special corps to be sent to places like Yemen to effect the peaceful capture of other terrorists by appealing to their better nature and suggesting they come back for trial

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
