hahaha.. you should go check out an ICE faccility. Tell them you are there to meet with a friend. The workers are the most direspectful, uneducated, worthless group of thugs I have ever encountered in my entire life. ICE needs to be gotten rid of or replaced with at least a competent organization with folks that have some semblance of human decency and an education. Better yet, try calling an ICE facility and you will hear exactly what I'm talking about.

I celebrated by donating to ICE.

How are you celebrating the contributions of the hispanic community? Today, more than ever, the hispanic population is shaping America just as previous immigrants did. Cultural hybridization brings the best in countries, of course there will be people against it. One thing is true, all immigrants come to this country to be part of American History...

Have you ever actually dealt with ICE? I actually have, and have seen none of what you purport them to be. They are underfunded, and stretched far too thin in terms of manpower.

Actually, at least 50% of the CBP agents that I've seen at the Tejas/Mexico POEs are Hispanic, si man -- and, many of those were apparently not born here, if their dialect is any indication, no man. Most, but not all, speak immediately understandable English, yes hombre.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I sure have. Perhaps it varies from facility to facility regarding the competence if you did not have similar experiences to mine. I will agree that they are underfunded. I will also state that in terms of manpower, I saw probably 20+ employees just sitting around on the butt, etc. It's a paycheck. I even asked one of them in the parking lot why everyone is so rude, etc. Impossible to comprehend what the guy even said... just a thug mouthing off. Seriously I think they are intimidated by educated white well dressed folks coming to their facility. The only thing I garnered from the experience was it was a bunch of lower level black folks simply treating hispanics like ######. Mind you, no way any of these folks had any sort of education. I do not think a GED was even required for the job after speaking to many of them. The competence of these folks actually kind of reminded me of my visit to INS back in 1996 when I petitioned for my ex-wife. At least those folks actually were doing something. I kid you not, the ICE facility here is simply the worst living conditions one could imagine being taken advantage, abused, and treated horribly by a bunch of thug employees. An acquaintance of mine is Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. I absolutely wrote her a letter about the deplorable conditions and horrendous employees working there. ICE employees are more criminal than the folks they have detained.

To be fair...I will add that the facility in question is run by independent contractors that ICE hires. Regardless, no one should live under such inhumane conditions.

It's no more racist than Italian Heritage Month, German American Heritage Month, or Irish-American Heritage Month -- we're mostly honkies, just like them. We just have to suffer the indignation of being lumped together as having a similar background, despite coming from many different countries. Viva los honkies!

Italy, Ireland and Germany are countries, what country would "Hispanic" be?

Did you even bother to read the second sentiment I expressed in my post? It's a lumping together of different nationalities, which is actually kind of ridiculous. Go ask a third generation Mexican-American what he thinks he has in common with a recent immigrant from El Salvador.

Evidently they have enough in common to rally together for furthering a political / social agenda.

It has nothing to do with nationality.

As their share of the pie shrinks, European Americans will realize they too have collective interests.

Do you actually know any Americans of Hispanic origin? I mean, not like, oh, Juan who does my garden? Seriously, most of us brown (or brownish) folks have nothing to do with the more radical elements of "brown power" -- just like your European-Americans don't with the radical white power fringe. But then again, you probably see brown people under the bed these days, now that Reagan eradicated the Red Menace single-handedly, no?

Honestly, one would think you were all for fomenting greater separatism between communities in this country rather than bringing us all together as a united and harmonious nation.

Likewise here, they ALL speak French. Though I cannot say if they are Quebecois and it is not a difficult thing to find plenty of Vermonters that speak fluent French.

But yes, a large percentage of the border patrol in Texas is Hispanic.

I have met all three of them in Vermont.

I don't ever remember having a national Norwegian month when I was a kid nor do I remember a national Frisian month. I just wonder what I missed out on other than some dinners at the Sons of Norway hall. I feel cheated.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
