This is a fantastic idea. Could you imagine how much happier, less stressed, more productive, etc citizens of the US would be if we had laws such as this... a 2 year marriage. What an awesome idea! Read the article further... abortions are legal, gay marriages (which I'm not a fan of... but believe people should be able to do whatever the heck they want), etc. Why is our country so backwards and controlling in almost every facet? Kudos to Mexico for coming up with such an exciting new concept in marriages.

Brilliant idea!

"...opting out of a lifetime. The minimum marriage contract would be for two years and could be renewed if the couple stays happy. The contracts would include provisions on how children and property would be handled if the couple splits.

"The proposal is, when the two-year period is up, if the relationship is not stable or harmonious, the contract simply ends," said Leonel Luna, the Mexico City assemblyman who co-authored the bill.

"You wouldn't have to go through the tortuous process of divorce," said Luna, from the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, which has the most seats in the 66-member chamber."

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

They also decriminalized drugs...Some countries they send you to prison for life for having a joint, others they chop off your head, here in the US you get 1 year monthly reporting probation, $1000 in fines, community service, rehab, random drug tests, and the stress that comes along with it...oh, and you are shipped off to prison if you violate the terms of your probation....I think Mexico obviously has the right ideas

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico enacted a controversial law on Thursday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs while encouraging government-financed treatment for drug dependency free of charge.

The law sets out maximum “personal use” amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. People detained with those quantities will no longer face criminal prosecution; the law goes into effect on Friday.

Anyone caught with drug amounts under the personal-use limit will be encouraged to seek treatment, and for those caught a third time treatment is mandatory — although no penalties for noncompliance are specified.

Mexican authorities said the change only recognized the longstanding practice here of not prosecuting people caught with small amounts of drugs.

The maximum amount of marijuana considered to be for “personal use” under the new law is 5 grams — the equivalent of about four marijuana cigarettes. Other limits are half a gram of cocaine, 50 milligrams of heroin, 40 milligrams for methamphetamine and 0.015 milligrams of LSD.

President Felipe Calderón waited months before approving the law.
