I don't think there is any question on my position on the issue of firearms. Or Alla's for that matter. She has taken shooting to heart, keeps her favorite rifle in her office and goes shooting by herself when I am busy. She will get a life memebership to the NRA for her birthday!

This is hokey bullsh*t. I think we all recall when John Kerry bought a "huntin'" license and went goose hunting just before the 2004 election. If Perry goes shooting, good for him. So what? He is a mealy mouthed politician and I do not believe anything he says.

Now, I think he probably does support the right to keep and bear arms, and I think he probably would not make any attempt to restrict our rights. But I also believe the days of gun control being a political issue, at least nationally, died in 1994. When the Dems got body slammed for passing the AWB (that didn't ban anything) that was it. There has been no attempt since 1994 for any sort of federal gun law. 18 years of inactivity is not a fluke, and not an oversight.

There is only ONE state left that does not allow concealed carry. The NRA has been stupendously successful and I will continue to send the money to fight restrictions at the state leveel and to maintain what we have. There are more challenges coming to forever stamp out any attempt to restrict our rights.

Since then we have two Supreme Court decisions establishing that it is an individual right.

I am a life member fo the NRA and a lifelong shooter, hunter, collector and handloader. I carry a gun everywhere I go. But it is not an issue we need to turn our decisions upon, not right now and not this election cycle.

The country has more pressing issues right now.

I was a life member of the NRA in 1977 when they had a major rift. The "old guard" wanted to use a lot of funding for supporting shooting programs, competitions and such. Good stuff all. But the other faction, of which I was a member said "Looky here, if we do not put a stop to this legislative attempt to take away our guns there is going to be NO guns to shoot or compete WITH!!!!" They formed the NRA-ILA and the rest is history.

I feel the same about the country now. If we do not fix the fundamental problem of this country, which is funding the government in a way that does not chase out business and jobs, then there will be nothing left. Guns, abortion, gay marriage, etc., are nothing without a solid, stabe country in which to carry on a debate.

So far Gary Johnson and Herman Cain seem to "get it"
