In the post today, we received a one-page letter from the immigrant visa branch at the US embassy in London informing us of our approved I-130 petition! Yay! I'm just wondering what my next step is because it tells us to go online for a detailed explanation of the next step. Can I start completing the forms now? I had the impression that we would be receiving a packet of the forms in the mail. Should I wait for that to arrive? Or just start filling out the forms from the online site? Anyone who has gone through this stage of the process already, it would be great to know what you did at this point! Thanks!

Hi there,

1: Pay the AOS and the IV Bill online (NVC- will send you the codes to use on the online website to it ether online/or via cheque) Online is faster*

The applicant will also receive the form for the agent in the mail (some people just email them the choice of agent)

2: I would get all the documents ready, especially the police certificates, unabridges birth certificates, do all the paper work, print the forms out and fill it in.

(Once you paid all the bills ,they will allow you to print a cover sheet, you need this to put infront of all the documentation you send in)

Hope this helps..let me know if you have any questions..

GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the help! I'm here with my husband in England, so we don't have an AOS fee because we're filing at the embassy in London. I have almost all of my documents ready to go, I just have to make a few copies and print off my I-864. Once I have all these documents ready to go, can I mail the DS-230 Part I/II and the DS-2001 to the immigrant visa unit?

I would phone them and ask, also i have read tat if you do send them documentation without them asking it might cause a delay. Also make sure you have a cover sheet when you send them anything...

There's no packet of documents. Use the online ones. Yes start now. Do you already have your police certificate? Make your medical exam appointment too. Read the online instructions.

You can mail the forms today and wait on your documents. Then when they arrive and you have everything in order you send the DS2001 to let them know you're ready.

Thanks so much! This has really helped! We do already have the police certificate! Everything is almost ready to go, I just have some copies to make! I'll start on the DS forms and schedule the medical asap! One other question I have is about a fee... Our credit card was charged after mailing our I-130 so we've made that fee payment. We know the medical costs £210. Is there another visa fee to be paid during the interview process?

You paid a petition fee. Now there is a visa fee.

From the Fees link:

Application processed by the National Visa Center

Applicants pay the fee to the National Visa Center before they begin processing their application.

Application processed by the Embassy

Immigrant Visa Applicants pay the fee to the Embassy cashier on the day of the visa interview. Fees may be paid in cash - sterling or dollar equivalent; by International Money Order or Bankers Draft; Credit Card - Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Discover or American Express; or Debit Card with the Visa logo. The Embassy does not accept any other credit or debit cards, or personal checks.

Immigrant Visa Fees

•Immediate Relative and Family Preference applicants: $404.00

And there is a courier fee. Find the link on the left of one of the instruction pages.
