how to get Certified copy of marriage certificate

Hi

I came to US on a K1 Visa and now we are about to get married in the next 2 days . The question in our minds is that while filing for AOS do we need to wait for weeks for the True Certified copy of the marriage certificate to arrive to our recidence(which can take upto 2 months )or is there any way of getting the true certified copy faster .

I did my searches and realised that someone took the maggiage certificate themselves to the clerks office and got the certified copy on the spot .Is it possible in AZ as well?

As far as we know ,the Pastor marrying us will send the certificate to the clerk's office after which they will send us the certified copy .

Any help will be highly appriciated .

When you get married make sure the minister/church clerk knows you want the certificate quickly. Sometimes they are in no hurry to send the marriage documents to the state. Unless Az is very slow, there is no way it should take two months.

Granted we are in Georgia, but we had our marriage certificate in less than a week after the ceremony. We did tell the church to mail the documents the same day as the wedding.

the marriage cert.. is a COUNTY thing.. not State (AZ) call you COUNTY Clerk office, or better yet.. go visit.. those people are very helpful

Whatever they say on the county web site about timings may not be accurate.

For my county in California - they said 4 to 6 weeks. We were able to go in in person 2 weeks after and get the certified copy. Whew ;-)

With permission of the officiant, take the signed marriage LICENSE to the courthouse yourself and wait there while they prepare marriage CERTIFICATES. Get more than one certificate! I got 7, and we ended up using 5 for various purposes.

we go ours on the same day...but we got married by the county clerk

On the same day (just this month), we got married at a court house then we personally delivered the marriage license to the county clerk's office. We also requested for certified copies of the marriage certificate which was ready in a few minutes.

The judge who officiated the wedding let us have the original signed marriage license document after making copies. Even if we hand-delivered it, they will still send the copy to the county clerk office just to make sure they receive the license for encoding.
