Please HELP!!!

Hello VJ friends,

Finally got a case number and the case has been forwarded to the consulate( Cyprus). Thank God we passed that stage. The problem is my fiancee's resident permit expires the end of the month and he is not able to renew it at this time...If he has to go in for his interview will it be a problem? I would really appreciate a prompt response and any more advice or info..

Is your fiance not originally from Cyprus? Most consulates require that the visa applicant be a citizen or lawful resident of the country where they apply for the visa.

There was a case in Cyprus a few months ago where the beneficiary had an expired or lost residence permit. He was told that as long as he applies for a new one it would be sufficient and that the outcome of that application would not be taken into consideration. I will contact the petitioner and ask her to post here if she so chooses with a more detailed answer.

Thanks for your reply... Ebunoluwa he is a student and from Nigeria. If i got you correctly if his Visa is approved, it wont be taken into consideration until his permit is renewed? The problem is the time is short to do whats needed for the permit to be renewed.

You can always transfer the case to his homecountry all he need is to request the embassy in nigeria to request the embassy in cypras to tranfer his case .

If the beneficiary has (or can get) legal resident status in Cyprus then it would be preferable to interview there. In fact, it would be preferable to interview anywhere else in the world except Nigeria. The consulate in Lagos is regarded by many as the most difficult consulate in the world.

Definitely keep the case in Cyprus. Lagos is hell.

Thanks for your reply... Ebunoluwa he is a student and from Nigeria. If i got you correctly if his Visa is approved, it wont be taken into consideration until his permit is renewed? The problem is the time is short to do whats needed for the permit to be renewed.

His visa most likely will NOT be approved unless he has submitted an application for a renewed permit PRIOR to the interview. You can go to the permit office there and start an application and call the embassy for a later interview appointment. You can ask the office exactly what is needed to submit the application. Based on the case I know, it didn't matter to the CO if the permit would be approved or denied by the local authorities as long as an application had been SUBMITTED PRIOR to the interview. If you chance it without it you risk a long AP time. Do everything you can to get the application in, ask them (permit office)to accept it even if you are lacking certain items they may require which you can later supply if need be. Point is the application is then submitted and get proof of it to present to the CO.
