Transcripts are copies of the original info submitted to the IRS. Copies of those copies should be fine. They represent to the embassy that taxes have been paid on a certian income level & there is no further tax liability. Thats all they care about.

My Husband & I are going through this now it's one thing we did not have at his first Interview. I had sent him all my tax returns. That is not what they wanted. You need to go to www.irs.gov & request the tax transcripts for the specified years. The embassy in Ghana will not accept your printed off or copied tax returns. They want something directly from the IRS. At least thats the impression we got & were told. I received everything from the IRS quite quickly within 2 weeks after submitting the request. Hope this helps

Tax transcripts are just a printed copy, maybe somebody from the FBI can tell the difference between my copies on a cleaned up copying machine. I can't. Well, I guess I can, using a better grade of paper than the IRS, should shop around for cheaper paper.

Very easy form to duplicate or even forge, but not a good idea. I got the tax transcripts for my stepdaughter just by knowing her name and SS number, they already knew her address. Guess if I can do that, so can the USCIS, they also have that information to compare what you give them and what they get from the IRS. Doing that would get you deported.

Recall needing those for that I-864, then again for the I-751 and the N-400, but that was only for we were paying taxes together for the latter. A good sign of a happy marriage, couples that pay taxes together stay together, I guess.

For the former, want to make sure you are rich enough first before you can import an immigrant.

Copies of tax returns prove you filled out forms. Transcripts prove you filed the tax forms. Get transcripts by fax or in person or by mail.

In summary, the US Embassy in Ghana will only accept tax transcripts not copies of tax returns. Since tax transcripts are just printed out on regular paper, there really isn't an "original" pursay because when I sent mine to mine husband I just scanned and email it.

Staying strong and patient in love and faith!

No, it doesn't have to be an original copy, but definitely make sure you have tax transcripts otherwise it will hold things up as it did for us. My hubby has to return this info tomorrow. Hopefully, that will satisfy all of their requirements and our case is approved.
