K-1 vs. social security disability benefit

My fiance is receiving his income from his pension plus the social security disability benefit. He got a huge settlement in May we're both happy but earlier, he got a notification that his pension will be cut into half because they found out he is receiving disability benefit and they are asking him to repay the $15,000+ over payment. Also, I was browsing stuff here about social security disability, it says that depending on the award, it may be completely taken off once he gets married.

We cannot live in $800/mo till he pays back the "over payment" or until he turns 65. He has mortgage and we are expecting a lot of expenses for my K-1, wedding, AOS and all that. Any thoughts?

Happy New Year!

I just talked to him earlier. He just verified that the social security disability that he's got is self earned. Yeah he takes petty job driving but it's barely enough. If SS learns that that he's earning more than $1,000, they will take it off from him because he's not completely disabled, if you know what I mean. Thank you for your reply.

I just don't understand why his pension from work has to be reduced just because they found out he was granted with social disability benefit. You earned it and both paid it all your life, the hell they care.

he is on disability but not disabled & he is trying to hide it. :(

simple math.. there are more people being paid.. then actually put in... so no.. we will not get what we put in..

maybe you should hold off on the application.. tell you get more information on his income or how the government is going to garnish that much per month..

He is not blind, deaf, nor amputee. He worked in a big auto industry for 30yrs. Out of that, his knee got terrible, the other one was already replaced and the other knee will be done once we're together. He can't stand and walk for long hours and he got this terrible attention deficit. He was fired from the other driving job because he can't wash the dishes (he used to deliver pizza after retirement). He can hold a job but it shouldn't be full time that demands a lot of physical activity. If it's some executive job, you would hate that forgetfulness.

It's the wear and tear on his body that he's paid for but he can't make more than $1000 or else SS will consider that he's able to work again.

I dunno, it sounds like they don't want Americans to be happy. :crying::bonk:
