Completing the I-485 form, and have the following questions:

Nonimmigrant visa number - the red 8-digit alphanumeric on my K-1 visa (in my case, a letter followed by seven numbers) at lower right below the visa expiration date?

Question 3B - as I am adjusting status after marrying my wife (and the example is for a woman immigrating to marry a man), do we complete Question 3B with my wife's maiden name as the family name, or my name as she is taking it (making her maiden name a new middle name)? We've just got the certified copy of the marriage license back so haven't started changing her name on the records (SSA, bank, etc).

Hiya,

Yep,that's the Visa number and i suggest you fill in your last name(as she's taking it) for part 3B.

Her maiden name is gonna be her new middle name.

and get some time to start the name change process, starting with the SSA# as this will be asked for almost everywhere M8

There could be a better suggestion...may be some else will chime in on this

Good luck and congrats on ya wedding.

I like to say.. approach AOS as a brand new process with new people looking at it. It's like starting from scratch, so forget what was on the K1 petition. If her name today is Mary Wilson Rallybug, then use that name. It's her name if that's what she intends to get everything else changed to. They will "get it" at USCIS that she's newly married and has chosen a new married name. That goes for her Affidavit of Support too.

Her maiden name is gonna be her new middle name.

This isn't true of English couples typically.. it's not a requirement.

Oh, I thought that's what she had chosen to do, not that he thought it was required. She's American and I know quite a few who do that--use their maiden name as a way of honoring Daddy and their roots.

Either way, using her married name will be fine Rallybug.

Oooohhh. I'm sorry. Hunger confused me. My bad. I completely missed the bracket (and I read it like 3 times :S). Well then fair enough!

Thanks all good.gif

I had the fun of the I-765 and G-325a forms not coming up until I'd disabled the PDF Viewer built into Google Chrome - until I did that, I couldn't open with Acrobat (and the forms wouldn't open in Safari or Firefox either - USCIS obviously don't like Macs!) headbonk.gif Add in that the printer at home fubar'd the bar code on the I-765 and all was not happiness and light in the living room! whistling.gif

Now to find all the extra bits and pieces for photocopying etc.
