You pay taxes on parking meters? Our taxes went down 1/4% here and I still pay 50 cents for 2 hours.

VA income is not taxable.

There used to be a time when LOTS of stuff was deductible, even interest on credit cards! Ah the good old days.

I dont think the question was about whether or not the fees were taxable, the questions is, could he take a deduction for the fees...

Re-Read the posts and then answer..

Since I am in the process of getting a K1 Fiancee Visa for my future wife and her daughter. Is there any tax writes offs for this process ? Once married "we' will get a child tax credit deduction of $1000.

By the way, we all have been doing taxes for years and we get the the part about deductions and tax credits for family, agian, that wasnt the question...

Based on the math done by my accountant I am going to go from filing single to married and from just me to four of us. Apparently while I get a tax deduction for all four of us I also get a tax credit for the minors, something like $3,000 or $3,500 each. My take home pay will increase about $1,000 a month as a result.

I am not doing this for the money! That's the way the tax code works. I have been claiming Single Zero for 30 years and paying a boatload of bucks.

You'd think monies that you pay the government would not be taxable. Do you pay a tax on traffic tickets? A tax on parking Meters? A tax on VA income? Nope.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Anh, the child tax credit he refers to has nothing to do with fees and expenses. Every family gets a child tax credit of $1000 for each qualifying child. We get $2000 in tax credits on top of everything else. This is in addition to the standard deduction or itemized deductions. We also get education credits worth thousands of dollars and the goverment recently extended the limits on those to "lifetime". Between Alla's 50% scholarship and the $2600 tax credit we got every year (including for 2011 as she just grqaduated in June) her education was "almost free". I have to remind her of this when she gripes about how expensive education is here.

Why should taxpayers pay for it? Because education is cheaper than welfare and we now have another teacher certified to teach English to immigrants and help our community in general.

Gary, the costs of the immigration process aren't deductible. There are other benefits that come with residency, etc. So for the OP, there is nothing related to the visa journey that can be itemized to reduce tax owed.

True. Perhaps I misread? I thought he was asing about the "child tax credit" this is not an immigration related credit or deduction.

If you are sick and the doctor tells you to move to Arizona or Florida due to the warmer weather, that can be considered a medical cost. Deductible? I do not know, but you do qualify for unemployment.

I say this because my fiancee's doctor wanted to write her a prescription for America.

Yes.

This has nothing to do with "paying for immigration" If you get married before midnight on December 31, 2011 your status will be "married filing joint" and if you have a qualifying child, YES you get the child tax credit, There are some qualifications to this, so check with your tax professional.

If the child does not qualify this year, they will next year.

When you get married and you have children you become a family just like any other family and are entitled to the same credits as anyone else. To suggest that "taxpayers are paying for your immigration" is simply ignorance of the tax laws.

The question has everything to do with immigration. The OP stated he KNEW he was going to get the Child Tax Credit of $1000. His question was in regards to THIS process meaning the immigration process and if he was going to get any money back or tax breaks from the fees that he had paid which no, of course he isn't going to. Nobody does and again noone can expect the American Taxpayers to pay for the immigration expenses. So really there was no ignorance on my part but I can only speak for myself.
