K-1: Am I allowed to bring my dog?

For some time I'll be bored since I cannot work. Am I allowed to bring my dog? I know vaccines and other vet report is needed but is there a fee involved?

I brought my cat; it was fairly straightforward. Cats don't require quarantine. I'm not sure if dogs do, so that's something to look into.

They are subjected to quarantine, valid rabbies vaccination certificate is required if you are coming from non rabies free country. They are examined at port of entry.

Check the fees. I was going to fly my dog domestically in the US and they were going to charge my dog the same rate as me. Just check the fees in your research.

You can bring your k9 with you : ) The only fees are at your vet for rabies vaccination and health cert., and then the one-way ticket for your dog. There are laws for each state. When arriving at the airport you simply pick up your dog - in my case it was at the oversize luggage claim, and a lady came over and checked my papers.

A tip is to call and ask the airplane company. They each have different standards; especiallay when it comes down to the breed. Some require the health certificate to be done between 2-8 days before travel and the rabies vacc. 21-30 days before.

I had my dog vaccinated 2 month prior(her annual shot and then the rabies vacc.), the health certificate and her passport a week before POE. Just make sure that the documents are tranlasted to English. Remember to not get caught in the embargo limbo though so ask your airline if embargo rules are there when you plan to travel.

But when I brought her home from Moscow, she was still a small puppy.I flew Delta and on that flight they allowed me to take the dog with me in the plane. It only cost a few hundred dollars. She was in a flexible carrier that fit under the seat. Of course she was in my lap for most of the ride. And many passengers wanted to pet her so she went around the plane for a few hours even though the attendants did not really like it!. when I got to JFK, I showed them all my papers, which were in Russian and they could not understand then, so they just told me to make sure she gets all her shots and let me go. Took about 10 minutes.

Depending your dog, you can fly with it under your seat. Don't necessarily trust all the info on the airlines' web sites; better to ring and speak to someone directly.

In February of this year, you were still able to take small pets on board with United. (even though their web site stated otherwise at the time) I think it cost me around 80 GBP. Well worth it
