Just curious who here took which test ACT /SAT?

Neither. I took the "GED" and then the "ASVAB" when I joined up.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I honestly don't know much about the ACT vs SAT today. 20+ years ago, the only kids I knew that took the ACT were the kids in the bottom quarter. ie. the kids who couldn't score high enough on the SAT to get in anywhere other than a community college typically took the ACT. No one in the top half of my predominantly white school took the ACT. I have no clue whether the same holds true today. To answer your question, I took the SAT.

Ah... I do remember some kids that took the ACT. Kids that were not good test takers and the dyslexic kids took the ACT.

Generally the coasts take the SATs and everywhere else takes the ACT. (I think its about 50/50)

They are born that way

And you, at the same time believe Evolution?

How are these two compatible?

How does "being born" with any given condition confer upon it normalcy or the obligation of others to embrace it?

Some people are born intelligent, others have a cleft pallet.

Some people have an extremely violent nature, some of those no doubt were born that way.... how is that meaningful to what society accepts?

an interesting breaKdown ..... Seems the Asians are pulling ahead more the Whites are treading water and everyone else's scores are slipping.

The "achievement gap" should be called a "achievement gulf" and it seems to be growing.

Why hasn't the homosexual gone extinct?

Why are you pro unequal rights? What they do in their bedroom doesn't concern you. If they want to pay down our deficits by purchasing a piece of paper (marriage certificate) then let them give the state money.

All gays are certainly not extremely violent people. So why make this comparison? You're talking about 2 different things.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Those averages are scary bad. Where do all the whites and asians that bring down the average live because I don't know any Asian that didn't score at least 650 on each section and there are sooooooo many that score over 2300, where are all the ones that bring down the average? Midwest?

Seriously, 2250 for an Asian guarantees almost no chance at an Ivy education as there are thousands who score over 2300 every year who get left out of the mix. Where are the ones who bring the average down to 1600 living?

Heck, my daughter scored over 1600 in 7th grade... and she's 1/2 hispanic

Do you think people should be able to marry animals or multiple partners? What about those peeps? Seems like their rights are getting stomped on, yet we don't see them trying to shove their agenda on everyone including normal children who were't born with that "gay gene" that you mentioned.

As usual that's pretty simplistic.

As it should be.

As it should be.

Your mistake is in assuming that university places are granted on the basis of political agendas.

Academic achievement is always at the centre of the process but there are other factors which determine whether one student might get a place over another.

According to California it isn't important to get good grades as much as it is to be anything but white.

The tests have changed quite a bit I guess. Harvard only requires about a 2100. Midwest does not have many people taking the SAT so I doubt it.

Look the reality California is toast in so many ways, this is meaningless.

The census report showed the California in the last 2 decades had perhaps the largest number of people abandon an area in peace time.

Millions have fled california (mostly Whites) yet California grew in population due to the influx of Hispanics and asians.

California is on a certain crash course as so much of their tax base leaves, taxing Business and tasking on more debt will be all thats left to float the Government.

In 1-2 decades from here it would be hard to believe this same region was the "Golden state" with envious surroundings as the Beach boys music filled the air.

-------------------------------------------------------------

O.C. lost whites, gained Hispanics and Asians, census shows

March 08, 2011|By RONALD CAMPBELL, DOUG IRVING and PEGGY LOWE

California's population would have dropped over the past two decades were it not for a huge increase in Hispanics and Asians, 2010 census figures released Tuesday show.

The trend is the same in Orange County as it is for the state: Whites have been decreasing in large numbers since 1990, while Hispanics and Asians increased. The shifting demographics have helped Anaheim pass Santa Ana as the county's biggest city, with Irvine now a distant third.

The census, completed last year, bears the scars of the national recession – from the number of homes found vacant here to the explosive growth of the less-expensive Inland Empire. It shows that Orange County grew by about 6 percent in the past decade and is now the third most populous county in California, after Los Angeles and San Diego, with a little more than 3 million people.

"We've never had a census like this before, during a recession," said Dowell Myers of USC's School of Policy, Planning and Development. "That kind of distorts a lot of things."

More than 2 million whites have left California – or died – since 1990, the census numbers show. At the same time, though, more than 6 million Hispanics and 2 million Asians moved here or were born here – accounting for almost all of the state's growth over the past two decades.

Without that growth, the state would have lost federal tax dollars, which are often awarded according to census population counts. It could also have lost political clout in Washington, because Congressional districts are determined by the census.

The only thing different in Orange County was the size of the numbers. The county lost about 15 percent of its white population (about 226,000 people) but gained nearly 80 percent more Hispanics (nearly 450,000 people) and more than 120 percent more Asians (more than 290,000 people) since 1990, according to the census. Click here to see an interactive map of the changes in every California county.

Those changes reshuffled the hierarchy of Orange County cities. Anaheim lost more than 20 percent of its white population between 2000 and 2010 but nonetheless emerged as the county's biggest city thanks to increases in its Hispanic and Asian populations.

Gosh, for men who claim not to care what other men are doing with their phalluses, certain members of this board seem able to drag a whole mess of sweaty man-sex into conversations ranging from taxation to education.

I daresay, that's more than a little bit gay.
