VicRoads renewed mine no issue BUT of course I had to give them an address... maybe that's the problem?

I also renewed my license (Canada) after I moved here. The problem is that we are in limbo when we get here, until we receive the permanent residency. Even the guy at the passport office who had moved to Canada from France told me to do that.

Yes,

things have changed, a lot. I was able to get a Florida DL in North Palm Beach with a B2 and an I-94 that was valid for less than 6 months, back in 1986.

She may be able to get one with an EAD, but she doesn't have that either.

I don't know where you're getting your information from but those of us who obtained licenses in FL with our NOA know it can be done.

Starting in Jan, 2010 they changed what documents are needed to get an ID or license. You need at least an EAD to get a temporary one, and there is a wait time to get it. It will be mailed from Tallahassee. When you get your green card, you can then get a new one that is good for the 8 years.

Type in your info here for a non-immigrant and it will show what documents are required> http://www.gathergoget.com/

"Documents must be valid for more than 30 days from the date of issuance.

Non-U.S. citizens applying for an original driver license will be issued a 30-day, no photo, paper temporary permit and a receipt. Non-U.S. citizens applying for an identification card will be issued a receipt.

All records are transmitted to our database in Tallahassee, where the information will be examined and run against FDLE, FBI and US BCIS databases.

Upon identity and legal status verification, a driver license or identification card will be issued within 30 days from Tallahassee, mailed to the address on the driver record. The license or identification card will be issued for the period of time specified on the US BCIS document, up to a maximum of one year.

If a problem is detected, a denial of issuance letter will be mailed to the customer."

Emma Louise,

you will not be able to obtain a Florida driver license before your AOS petition is being adjudicated. "Should have" doesn't help you much, but you should have gotten a new Australian license before moving to the U.S.

i just went to dmv fl @ oct 4 2011 with my I94, approved I130 and pending receipt of I485. My I94 was with my student visa and says D/S but i was out of status from nov 2010. Dmv ask for my i20(savis) coz his computer was asking for my I20.When I explain him about I485 he went back room and then took all of my paper and issue me a 30 days temporary paper license. On the next day i went to dmv website and check my license status. It was showing that my application is denied and will be cancel from oct 25 2011. but after 2 days later now it is showing that my license is valid and will be expire on oct 4 2012. but i didn't receive my license yet.

Hi everyone,

I have come across another problem. I have applied for AOS from a K1 visa. I have the NOA1 but that is all. I am currently driving by using my Australian drivers license but this will expire in about 3 weeks. I want to apply for a Florida drivers license and have some questions for any other Florida residents:

1. Am I eligible for a Drivers License as I do not have EAD or greencard (my K1 will expire in about 3 weeks) ?

2. do I need to take a driving test or can I exchange my foreign license?

I cannot go without a license for any period of time as my husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan and I have no other transport options.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

I just have a general question regarding my husband's Florida Learner's Permit. He applied for his I-485 and I-765 before his I-94 expired and was able to take the DATA class for first time driver's, as well as the written road rules and street signs tests. (He also has his SS# and he did not do the written and physical test all in one day because if you take driving classes by Florida Law your car insurance is lower, therefore he'll be taking the classes with his permit first.) When he passed the tests they gave him a piece of paper to be a temporary permit until he receives the real one in the mail, that will be sent from Tallahassee. The woman made it sound like this wasn't normal and told us we should receive it in 30 days, but she didn't know why it needed to be sent from Tallahassee, and she also said that he can't take the actual driver's test part of it, until he has his real permit in hand. Is this normal? Has anyone else been told they have to wait for their permit/license to arrive from Tallahassee? Thanks for you help!

:-)

I just saw this post so I guess this is a pretty normal thing. Thanx!
