First, I am not sure which visa you are applying for. I will just put my experience in brief points.

- I am in IT(Software)

- I got a friend to look over my resume for me and point out what might not be right and I redid my resume based on advise and looking at other sample resumes I found online.

- I had a few formats, each putting more emphasis on a particular skill. When I apply for a job, I send the one that is most suited to the job.

- I applied to MANY jobs on monster.com, Indeed.com, dice.com, careerbuilder.com. I was careful to keep a record of every application and resume.

- I got called for interviews and was not succesful at the first 3. I got a job offer at the 4th.

- The interviews had written tests and a verbal interview with the recruiting managers.

Well said skiptex! So true about facebook and social media, I tightened security. I also changed my email address to a FirstName.LastName@....com format.

Will just point out a few things. It is hard to keep a resume at 1 page in some cases. I trimmed my resume to 2 pages and I had to cut out details of the technologies I've worked with and had to fill employers in when they have questions on details. 2 pages was the least I could do!
