I was wondering if any recent Cuban K-1 visa holders have traveled to the US with a connecting flight in Cancun, Mexico? Do they need another or different visa for entering Mexico? I know the flight from Cuba to Cancun arrives in a different terminal than the departing flights from Cancun to the US...I was just wondering what the logistics are like...Do they have an "immigration escort" in Mexico...like I've read in the past? Did it take any more time to pass through Mexican immigration? The idea is that we'd like to travel to the US together on our first POE trip, and that isn't necesarily an option for me other than through Mexico...Thanks for any input/help.

This is what I have heard happens. This is second hand information. It is very difficult to get the Mexican visa. The Cuban is held in a separate area for the hours that it takes to change planes, and by held I mean there is a police officer there with them. I'm sorry I can't tell you where I found this information, but it has been confirmed by friends who brought their fiance here and tried to bring them through Cancun - they gave up and had them come through Miami instead.

One other possibility if you are near the West Coast that I am going to explore. Both Los Angeles and Oakland have been opened up for licensed trips to/from Cuba. I don't know if they fly direct to Havana or not, but when the time comes I am going to see if that is a workable solution or not. You can call Paulina at cuba travel services in los angeles at 800-963-2822

they also have an office in Miami - check out:

Hope that helps and if you have any luck please post it - it may help us all.

And I hope others that have been through the process already and has first hand info will answer your post.

My husband came through Cancun 3 years ago, as part of his transit here. He was coming on a fiance visa.

I did not meet him there, he came by himself, and yes, he had an official Mexican minder the entire time between his flights. I don't think it was a big deal, they joked about the situation.

The only trouble my husband had that day was trying to get out of Havana. Apparently, the Cuban authorities checked all his tickets for the day, and because they didn't recognize JetBlue (which he flew from Cancun to NYC), they didn't let him board til the LAST MINUTE. Why that is any of their business, who knows, but it was harrowing for him. Once he got out of Cuba, everything went smoothly.

J. Ro, this is really good news. Did you have to do anything special for your husband to come through Cancun? Did you have to apply for a visa for Mexico or something? Anything special you did to make this happen would be appreciated by me, and hopefully also Beau and Digna who asked the original question. Thanks.
