Is a letter of employment required to be turned in with the Affidavit of support?

No, it's not required; it's optional.

For all those that said yes, did you guys not read the instructions? It's purely optional, just like the pay stubs. Taken from the I-864 instructions PDF, page 7 of 11:

"You may include evidence supporting your claim about yourexpected income for the current year if you believe thatsubmitting this evidence will help you establish ability tomaintain sufficient income. You are not required to submitthis evidence, however, unless specifically instructed to doso by a Government official."

Despite it being optional, I would recommend sending the employment letter as it is proof of current income.

There are only three things REQUIRED for the AOS package (with no co-sponsors): bar-coded cover sheet, completed and signed I-864, and tax information.

The optional stuff: cover letter, employment letter, and pay stubs.

Thank you so much for your replies! I called the NVC yesterday and they told me that my file is in the building but has not been entered in to the system. I was trying to avoid getting a letter from my employer but requested one today. Want to get the AOS out to them ASAP but not sure how long it will take to get a case number assigned. I am planning on calling them every other day! Hope this does not hurt my case....
