Police Certificate - When is it needed?

Does the Police Certificate need to be submitted to the NVC or is it only required for the Embassy interview?

I am concerned about the timing considering that it takes one month for the Police Certificate and our NVC stage is hopefully coming soon. I do not want our lack of not having the Police Certificate to stop the process. My wife is trying to get the Police Certificate started now but I was still wondering when during the visa process will it be required to have it.

You need a police certificate at the NVC stage. I believe you need one at the interview also, but you might want to double check with your consulate/embassy.

Have her get it now - it's valid for a year - so timing won't be a problem.

So it's required to submit it? I read the guide and it only said it's part of the pre-interview package. I can't seem to find anything that we have to actually send the police certificate to the NVC along with the other forms like proof of support, etc.
