Is there anyway we can fight this issue of payment of dowry exchange of gift as not meaning marriage. Dowry to many culture does not mean marriage. if we look at the fact that you cannot walk to consulate with engagement pictures and tell them you are married without legal document such as marriage certificate. So why will consulate say because you pay dowry and so you are considered married. I have never seen any where in their law that say dowry can replace marriage certificate. I do not know why Lagos is treating us like this. This is our right as citizen to bring our fiance. I cannot believe people are rejected because they pay dowry.What do they know about our culture. We have thousands of ethnic groups with different interpretations of dowry. I'm willing to fight this if i know avenue to take to do so. Any suggestions is highly welcome.

It depends on several factors:

If the man is older consulates have been known to look the other way but the reverse is the case when its the woman who is older.

If a female Caucasian is involved then its a different ball game. This is viewed as an anomaly by Lagos and you will have to do thrice the work to convince them . Just by 2cents

Now WHY is it that if the female is a Caucasian you have to try more to convince and prove there is a relationship? That's ridiculous ... Well I guess I am really in trouble then cause not only am I Caucasian but i am older as well ... Oh !!!

The short reason why is that the older white woman with a younger man fits a common fraud profile from that region. Do some reading and be prepared.

Remember that the strongest evidence of a bona fide relationship is the time you spend together in person. If you have multiple visits, great. Make them as long as you possibly can, even if it is inconvenient.
