According to statistics here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/statistics/nivstats/nivstats_4582.html

30999/32288 K-1s in 2010 were approved the first time through (96%). 979 succeeded on appeal. Only 301 were rejected.

I wonder if they have it broken down by post. I have looked & looked but never found. For example, 2000 people applied for K-1 in Nigeria; 100 were approved... Have you ever found more detailed?

So when they say that about 95% of K1 visa's are approved, does that mean the remaining 5% of denials mainly come from Naija Lol...ugh

There is a reason why Nigerian US Embassy is considered the harshest and most difficult embassy to deal with....that percentage is not far off.

That is 9ja for you!!! :bonk:

I never found a breakdown by post. Somewhere in those stats is the number issued by each embassy, but it doesn't tell you how many were rejected.

There is no such thing as NOA1, NOA2, NOA3, etc. NOA stands for "notice of Action" which is what ALL the correspondence is called. The FIRST notice of action one usually gets is a RECEIPT, which many here refer to as NOA1. It is a receipt.

IF you did everything right right the 2nd notice of action you should receive is an APPROVAL. Often called the NOA2.

IF you get an RFE then the RFE is the NOA2 and the next one, NOA3 is hoepfully yhr approval. You will also receive Notices of Action for every other benefit you file for or pay for in the form of a reciept at minimum.

NOA1, NOA2 are simply "VJ lingo"

Thanks for sharing that crash course however I already knew the lingo on VJ and was just asking OP what he/she was calling in NOA3...but thanks anyway for that explanation

Patient2010: Take judicial notice..lol

If you are filling for a K1 in Lagos be very aware of the following:

1. Do not mention anything about introductions

2. Do not mention anything about dowry

3. Do not show any pictures of you guys in any identical traditional outfits

4. Do not speak about gifts exchanging hands.

5. Do not show any souvenirs

If you are responding to any question: Maintain eye contact for a period of about 10seconds before looking away briefly & reestablishing eye contact.

When Listening to the CO: Maintain direct eye contact AND maintain it. Try to blink at regular intervals .Also move your head now & then such as giving a nod in agreement.

I've heard it said that only 5% of communication is verbal, the rest is body language. How you present yourself says ALOT. You can take a ton of documents for the interview but if your body language is sending out the wrong signals...its all over before you even begin.

Always stick to your original story no matter the intimidation. Remember the worst any Co can do is delay or deny your visa. They can't stop your wedding/marriage...that's entirely up to YOU.

would you happen to no what age difference would send up a red flag? How many years would they consider is too much?

It depends on several factors:

If the man is older consulates have been known to look the other way but the reverse is the case when its the woman who is older.

If a female Caucasian is involved then its a different ball game. This is viewed as an anomaly by Lagos and you will have to do thrice the work to convince them . Just by 2cents

S_R you so helpful god bless. Pls do you hav any idea if a US financee acompany u to d inteview or be presence be helpful in nigeria.?

Just giving back to VJ Rachael74...

I believe the presence of any Petitioner during the interview phase speaks volumes in the eyes of a CO (with a human heart)...Lagos has very few of such peeps though but the beneficiary has to also know how to use that to his/her advantage during the interview. You also have to ace your interview phase . The secret is being Confident and KNOW THIS: THE CO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW & CAN NEVER KNOW YOUR FIANCEE/FIANCE BETTER THAN YOU. ALL THEY DO IS TRY TO TRIP YOU WITH TRICKY QUESTIONS BUT YOU MUST HOLD YOUR GROUND & LOOK STRAIGHT INTO THOSE EYES!!!!

Also fill in your timeline to help yourself & the VJ community

The CO knows that half the people coming through Lagos have no intention of staying with their spouses/fiances. They are trying to prevent those from getting though. But there is really no majic formula, We got through with identical uniforms, pictures taken in front of the marriage registry sign and I know Joseph is not an eye contact person. It is about the proof you have and knowing the naswers. ( our first visa was a trip up about details of my classified work , nothing could have helped that ) Time will reveal which half of the current group is fraudsters but half of those will make it to the US thanks to VJ .

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

S_R, I believe you are correct. Eye contact conveys confidence. NigeriaorBust I think you were blessed to not be hassled about the identical traditional clothing in the pic in front of the marriage registrar. Maybe if it wouldn't have been the job issue they would have picked on that just to pick on something like they do.

If they believe half will not stay then they need to have stricter requirements/guidelines as they are against regulations to deny due to assumptions without hard factual evidence and are wrong to return petitions under the catch all umbrella " for immigration purposes only" without the facts. I disagree that for Lagos it's about correct answers and sufficient evidence as we see time and time again a truck load full of evidence does not matter and SO's who answered every question correctly get disrespected and not approved.

Glad you made it and are together now and it was all worth it, you both were strong enough to stick with it.
