Marriage in Lima, Peru

Howdy.

First post here.

I will be going to Lima, Peru to get married and then begin the process of getting my wife a visa so she can come back to the states with me. BUT FIRST....I want to be sure that we can get married ASAP. So I am trying to find out exactly what documents I will need to get married when I arrive in Lima.

Embassy there told here I need a few things. Consulate here told me that I need only birth certificate and passport. I am sensing that someone is wrong and I do NOT want to be wasting time after I get to Lima. I want to have the correct documents now.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Experience only, please. Not another web link with a list of things. I need to speak to someone that knows what they are talking about.

I got married in 2008 so unless things have changed you will need something else. Have your fiancee go to the district you plan to get married and ask what papers you need. I know I needed my birth certificate and I had to do a search of marriage records in my state to prove that I am not married. I then had to take the documents to the consulate in Atlanta for them to certify them (I don't remember the term they used). My husband also had to post an announcement in the paper in Lima. Hope that helps.

The public announcement in the paper has to be made several days in advance. There are a few other hoops to jump through. Perú doesn't seem to be real high on the list for destination weddings. Good luck and please be sure to update this when you get it all sorted out. My other half wants a wedding there, too when we return there after getting married here.
