Does anyone have any experience obtaining a tourist visa to the US from India? I believe it is a B2 Visa as we would like him to come stay with me in the US during his summer school break. We are not ready for any fiance or marriage visa stuff yet. Any advice or words of wisdom much appreciated.

I am afraid that the experiances of others will have little to do with the outcome of this case. Each case is decided on its own merits. For this reason he must study & understand the strongest ties rules for example.

Every person holding a visa is considered an intending immigrant. To offset that the applicant must prove beyond doubt they must return. This is the key to every tourist visa application.

These applications are considered before the actual interview takes place & usually the decision is made before the person has a chance to even speak. For this reason the merits of the case should be presented in written form along with the other documents. These are then reviewed by the officer prior to the interview.

It's very hard to get a U.S. tourist visa from India. Even if you have strong ties to India. They just look at the red flags and say no. My sister in law is unmarried and not working and that's an automatic denial. His parent's finally got their visas but they are retired. If he has a job and has some type of proof that he'll return then he might get approved. Just be prepared if he doesn't get it.

The Main issue with US visa request in India the person has to show strong link to India, they have to show at the interview they are coming back to India after their visit. The only thing you can do is to send him an invitation letter, since you guys are not engaged so don't mention anything about looking to get engaged or getting married as it may be seen by immigration as avoiding the visa process as such they might see it as trying to short cut the system and might deny the visa request.

With the invitation letter, my sister in law apartment lease, Her leave request from work showing when she plans to take that vacation and when she plans to come back to work, her financial bank statements, it went through like a breeze, she was shocked it was so easy.

She wants him to stay with her for awhile, so that would be hard and expensive being in another country.
