Hey guys....

okay so let me just start by saying the following... I know nobody can be sure of any time tables for the NVC. I also know that some people may have asked this question already. I looked for it in this forum but saw that nobody got any answers and if they did I didn't really understand them.

So once the NVC assigns a case number, and enters the information into the system how long does it usually take for them to request payment of the I-864? I called the NVC today and the AVR says that they have entered the information into the system and I had already been given my case number. Since I have a lawyer they won't be needing the other paperwork (DS-3032).

If anybody has any idea I would really appreciate it. My family keeps asking me what's up and I can't tell them anything really, except that USCIS approved us.

Thanks for the help.

Depends as much--and maybe more--on your lawyer than on NVC. The total NVC process can be as little as a month to maybe three months, but that assumes that someone is staying on top of things and being proactive--that is not the way most lawyers operate, but it is the way most of us operate. We got through in a couple of months doing it ourselves, and you can read plenty of stories here where lawyers do it by the book, and it can take much longer.

Call your lawyer and ask what his experience is and then you will get a better picture...we can only advise you what to expect when you are doing it yourself.

As to paying, it was one day from the time we had the NVC case number which was nine days from the time of the I-130 approval. But everyone will be different, so don't use us as your only example.

Thanks for the answer but there is something I don't understand...

Now that the number has been assigned and the application has been submitted manually what is there to be on top of in the case of the NVC? Isn't it just waiting until they request payment?

I was calling about 3 times a week. Do I keep calling to request the invoice number for payment?

I don't understand how a lawyer could make it take longer.

Could you explain that a little to me?

Once you have a case number you can log into their electronic payment portal and pay the AOS bill right away--usually just a couple of days after the number was assigned. If your lawyer is from the old school and doesn't choose to do it online, then he is delaying you without need. Or even if he does use the online portal and doesn't get around to it for a week or more, also a delay. He is in control and you aren't !!

And he will not be able to submit the I-864 until the AOS bill is paid, ditto the DS-230 can't be submitted until the IV bill is paid. It is out of your hands...all you can do is call the lawyer and tell him to pay immediately so the forms can be submitted. He may or may not do as you ask...but one thing is sure, if you were in control, you could speed up the process, but you chose a lawyer, so you are working within his priorities, and not yours.

I think you must have had some bad experiences with lawyers. My lawyer always emails me back within 20 minutes to an hour that I email him. He received notice yesterday of the invoice number and has asked me immediately for payment information. I honestly was asking for some advice not somebody who was going to lecture me on what a bad girl I am for hiring a lawyer. Sometimes lawyer DO DO what they are supposed to do.

Stop being so negative.

And a person can be in control with the lawyer. I and him are in contact with the appropriate authorities.

Oh Zang...you don't know help when you see it and I am certainly not negative about lawyers--if you like yours, great, and then depend on him for you answers...all that anyone here can tell you is what will likely happen if you are doing it yourself because every lawyer has their own way of doing things....some are quick, and some still do everything manually, so that wastes a substantial amount of time. Nobody is judging your lawyer--we really don't care about him...all we care about is you !!!

Read carefully before lashing out...then you will get tons of help

Nobodies lashing out.

Maybe you should read what you wrote to try and understand why a person would interpret it the way that I did.

I didn't curse at you nor speak poorly. I just pointed out that you seemed to have a negative attitude.

real mature zang and well said mr. magic glad to have people like you here that know much about processes and aware of wat may go on in this cruel world.

I don't think it was necessary to call me immature. If you read the other posters reply it was quite negative. I was simply commenting on that.

Was it really necessary to comment here just to insult me?

I have never insulted another poster, nor do I intend on it.

Listen Zang---

When you place your life in another's hands, they control the outcome--not you. Here we do everything we can to help each other, and we can't really comment on the possible outcomes when you aren't doing things yourself. Are you ready to help others--we are--all of us.

We for the most part to not dilly dally with questions, but are rather direct and mostly compassionate. And we aren't just answering your question, but rather trying to be broader in our answers so that many others can learn as well.

While I really don't expect you to look beyond your situation, but if you did read the 1000-plus responses I have had to questions, you would see that we are all in the same soup and doing everything we can to help each other. When you are ready to help, come on back. In the meantime, lawyers can help and lawyers can hurt--why to you take it so personally?? You spent your $$, and you will either be happy with the outcome or not. And if you end up with a problem that you can't resolve through your lawyer--we hope that doesn't happen--we are all here to help.

When I'm ready to help?

I always answer the questions that I have answers to with the best attitude possible. I am always ready to help if I can. And if you knew me you'd know that.

That being said, I had no intention of starting some kind of forum war. I believe the topic is over. I just felt compelled to defend myself when you said I was lashing out.

Hope the best for you.

Good night.

zang...

i just hope that you have a better experience with your lawyers than i am with mine. everything was going fine until the last stretch with the NVC and they have been really dragging their feet. I estimate that they have wasted about 2 months of this process. I got lawyers with the idea that i could have piece of mind while they deal with the dirty work but it's just been a headache in the last stretch here. Good luck and i hope your whole process goes smooth.
